I'm working with a Mac Pro (early 2009) with Yosemite 10.10.5.

Icons for all four drives are listed on the desktop, and I would like to hide or remove the appearance of these hard drive icons from the computer desktop.

When I "eject" the hard drive icons from the desktop they also disappear from the sidebar in the finder window. My objective is to remove the hard drive icons from the desktop but keep them visible within the Devices section of the Finder window.

When the hard disk icons are ejected from the desktop, they are not restored in the Finder window after repeatedly checking and unchecking the "Hard disks" option in the following pathway: Finder > Preferences > Sidebar > Devices.

Thanks for any tips on how to remove the hard drive icons from the computer desktop while keeping them visible within the Devices section of the Finder window.
