iPhone Issue with iMessage

I am losing my mind with iMessages. If I tap on the icon, iMessages crashes. The screen flickers and that is it. If I tap it and make it to the text screen where I click on someone listed that I have been texting, it crashes then. I can then bring up the app switcher and kill it and it will work for a little while. I can use bitesms or couria for quick compose and I can send texts like that without issue. The issue occurs only when tapping the icon. I have restored, reset all settings, etc and nothing matters. I have a 5s and my tweaks are:

Activator
Zeppelin
Springtomize 3
Winterboard
Iconomatic

It does not go into safe mode. It just crashes. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I use WhatsApp as much as I can but would like to figure this out

Since you say you restored, does this happen when not jailbroken? My non-jailbroken iPhone doesn't do this...

Yes, it makes no difference. I have restored twice and this is the only issue I have. I am just grateful I can use Bitesms for QC/QR as that works fine. I can also go into contacts and send a text that way without issue. It is only when I click on the icon that I have issues.

When you (DFU) restore to 7.0.6, what do you do when you get to the "welcome page"?

If you go through that and tap start as new iPhone, does your messages app still crash?

After doing what does your messages app? (Even when you're unjailbroken)

DFU restore and set up as new is what I do. I do not like restoring from backup. I generally re-install my apps. Anyway, the issue occurs regardless. My issue is similar to this:

I have had the low battery rebooting mentioned in that link. Anyway, I don't know if it will help but I just deleted the imessages plist file via iFile and then rebooted. I will see how it goes.

I've never encountered this problem in the 5 or do times I've restored and started new on iOS 7.x (I have an iPhone 5 though, but don't think it's a device specific problem or else there would be many others on the 5S having the same problem as you)

Me too darrick. I have been texting my brother and so far it is working. The humorous thing about all this, to me, is I can have a conversation via QC/QR in Bite without issue....lol

Very weird bug and that it consists after seting up as new.

Guys, I just noticed something very odd. My niece just sent me a text which included an emoji, when I clicked on her to reply from the app, it crashed. I then tapped the bite icon again and it opened up. I deleted her text and then clicked on my brother and it came right up. Does that make sense?
