Anyone else having problems with AOL continuing to ask for the password in Mail? At first I was reluctant to do so, thinking it might be some kind of spam. But if I go ahead with the password, it checks if I'm a robot, I enter the password and then it just keeps recycling between checking for robot and entering of password.

I think this has been resolved. Yes, it for some reason all of a sudden it was asking for my AOLMail password when I tried to get mail. When I first tried this I was entering the wrong password, hence the cycling. With the correct password, all seems back to normal now.

In one of the sub accounts, Mail with AOL wasn't working but there was no popup asking for a password. I went into Mail/Accounts and when I clicked on AOL the password popup came up. After entering the password, that account now seems back to normal.

Just curious why after years of using AOLMail with Mac Mail it decided to ask for my password. I realize that may be more of an AOLMail issue than a Mac issue, but maybe not.

It seems more like AOL servers decided you need to again confirm your login credentials are correct.

Yesterday afternoon out of the blue the password for all 8 of my AOL accounts stopped working for the first time in 20+ years. They all had to be verified with MFA phone or email. Four of my accounts didn't have recovery set up with an email or phone and it says:

No recovery options listed
This account can no longer be accessed. To keep using AOL, create a new account or go to Help for more options.

It seems they now require MFA, but there was no warning this would happen. I didn't forget my password. I don't need to reset or recover my password. My password is correct because if I enter the wrong password it says it's wrong. If I enter the correct password it gives me the message above. For my accounts that are working, now I have to MFA every time I log in with any account. I'm all for MFA, but at least give me a warning before you start requiring it for the first time ever.

I called AOL, and after being on hold for a few hours, they said to not try to log in with the accounts for "a few days" and call back with an issue number they gave me.

When I did enter my password for each of my three accounts, it went to MFA. I don't remember setting that up but it was a long time ago that AOL took over the Verizon email accounts. Not right of them to deny access to your account - they should let you in and give you the opportunity to set up MFA. Good luck. Let us know what happens.

What do you do when the majority of AOL accounts can't be signed into because the recovery emails are the ones that you can't get into? I tried it on my iPhone as well as 3 browsers but can't access the recovery emails for verification codes. My accounts go back years and I can't change the P/W or add a contact phone #. Any advice would be great. Don't want to pay just to get my accounts back.

One of my 8 aol accounts was like that, where the recovery email was another aol account that had no recovery option. When I tried to enter my password in Apple Mail and iOS Mail apps, the only option was to use that other account, so it didn't work. But, when I tried to login in Mac Safari, for some reason it gave me the option to add a phone number to that account, and then I got the code and was able to log in. That was odd. That was the only account I had like that. I don't know why it let me do that. You say you tried 3 browsers already and that didn't work, so I don't know what else you can do.

I have two AOL, and all of a sudden, they are asking for a password I keep typing in the password, and it keeps saying the wrong password. It's starting to piss me off, especially with the stupid prove you're not a robot. Right now, I'm repeatedly waiting on the phone with AOL, and no one has picked up. I might have to switch over to Gmail once I get my password fixed.

a few days ago my active aol email addresses all went thru the same thing with needing the passwords reentered and when I did that yesterday, I was offered several options for verification. This happened a few years ago too and I must have set up my phone number as a verification method since I was offered the options of getting a code by text or phone call as well as getting an email.

All the accounts were resigned in yesterday, new mail arrived this morning.......then later in the day a bunch of emails from the last several days reappeared as new mail...very odd!

Everything seems to be working now.

I'm trying to remember what I had to do several years ago......I'm not sure but I think I might have had to delete and then add the account account to MAIL again. I know I didn't lose anything in the process back then.

You were lucky! I got a notice from AOL to delete my p/w and sign in again but I still get recovery notices for the other downed email. Tried it too on Safari, Chrome, Firefox and same thing. Won't let me in unless I get a verification code. I read that some used old phone $ or accounts on Mac products that were sold so no recovery options for them. I've had this account since the 80's with personal info that I need.

Has anyone got in yet
I don’t have the phone number that AOL is sending the code to
I also can’t login to my other AOL account which is used to receive the code
Also AOL has one of my number that I still used and they said I’ll receive a 6 digit code from the call but I’m still waiting on the call.
I just want to log back in to my account and switch everything over to Gmail.

I’ve experienced the same as everyone else here. It’s also carried over to my iPhone. It kept telling me I entered the wrong password so I reset it for two of my 7 accounts. It worked then stopped. I’ve reset my main password twice. Still have an issue. I’ve had the account for 29 years. Most things are attached to it so I need it to work.

Mine are working again after logging in and getting a code via text. I had to do this with both my iMac and iPad. I was expecting to have to do it for my iPhone as well but after resetting the iPad, the iphone started working again without my doing anything more

Recently, one of the accounts on my machine was getting large numbers of items in the Mail junk folder every day, even up to about 50 one day. After going through the password entering procedure discussed here the number of junk items has gone down drastically, e.g., none yesterday, one today. I doubt this was just a coincidence. Any idea why this has happened?
