In the last couple months, charging my iPhone 13 mini via MagSafe has stopped working. I have 2 Apple magSafe pucks and two apple chargers (one 35W, and then my Macbook Pro charger), and I have tested and it seems that it only affects my iPhone 13 mini (not my Airpods and not my Android phones which have magnetic charging cases.

The frustrating thing is that it makes the connectivity sound when connected via MagSafe but does not charge the phone at all (in fact, I think the battery drains faster than if it were unconnected). It's quite strange, and happened around the time I upgraded to iOS 17.5.1 (although I'm not certain the two are linked since it took a while for me to realize the MagSafe charger wasn't charging the phone at all).

I took it into the Genius Bar. At first, they tried to charge it using the stands for the iPhones on display, but those connections were working intermittently. When using my own charger and magSafe puck they saw the behavior I was describing. They then took it in the back and came back and said diagnostic tests were indicating that it was charging, but the battery percentage didn't increase a single percent (to be fair, it was mostly charged and was not decreasing quickly either).

Anyway, they offered to replace my Magsafe charger if I had a receipt (which I didn't have handy), but said the next step is to do a very intensive wipe of the phone to remove all the apps and not restore from the iCloud backup and try to restore all my apps manually. I'm actually OK doing this and I realize that they have to rule out different factors.

The one thing is I was wondering if anyone knows the formal procedure for what they're referring to (is it a factor reset? It sounds different in that it won't sync up the non-Cloud apps, although maybe they just have you elect to not restore from your iCloud backup).

I was also wondering if anyone else has experienced this issue (preferably with the iPhone 13 mini but I'd be curious to hear about other models as well).

I realize that magSafe is somewhat intensive on the battery but my battery health is 87%, and ultimately if the phone is overheating and is within warranty I think it should be a serviceable feature as I find it very useful at times).

Thanks.
