I've just returned from the Apple store with my third(!) MBP SR! Fingers crossed that nothing is wrong with this one.

This is my first mac, and the experience has not been very pleasant so far.

I don't know if I'm just being picky, so I thought I'd ask everyone first before I contact Apple for the 137th time.

Does anyone else notice that their spacebar makes a different sound when hit. Sorta sounds like it's loose, but it's not. All other keys are pretty "silent".

Help! I don't want to go back and get a 4th MBP, but damn it, this thing costs $2,400 so it better be damn near perfect! The warped display I can live with, but I use the spacebar everyday!

Enough rambling. Share your experiences. Much appreciated!

Every SINGLE keyboard I have used and have seen, heard, dreamed of, or imagined has an odd sounding spacebar.

Every keyboard I can remember using has had a different sound when pressing the space bar versus other keys. Its normal, and certainly nothing to keep returning computers over. I'm surprised they took two back, frankly. Yes, you're being too picky; its a non-issue. Unless your space bar is visibly broken or not working, a few decibels louder sound when you press a certain key really isn't anything to fret about.

Just to clarify, the spacebar is a "new" issue. I don't remember if it sounded the same on the other two. The other two had screen issues and hardware problems. They were tested in the store before they took it back. I'm picky, but not that picky.

yup even in my current non mac laptop..the space bar sound a little louder..maybe because its bigger?wider than other keys...its not a issue for sure...

thank you everyone!

I'm glad this is normal. I really didn't want to go back a 4th time, with a new issue.

Thanks to everyone for their quick replies. I really appreciate it. Now I can go back to enjoying my new mac. This forum is really great for us newbies:)

Most of us seem to beleive that the space bar is louder. Just as I'm typing this, i can hear that the spacebar is louder then the rest of my key.s I'm pretty sure it's for a reason.

Don't worry about it, it's perfectly normal.

EDIT: Damn, just a little too late.

Well I say as long as it works and that its not poping out... keep it.
If, (hope not for you but anyways) something happens with it, you still have the one year warranty with apple...

My first mac too (a month now) and enjoying it.
Like someone said somewhere in this forum....
Once you go Mac, you never come back,....

EDIT:
DAMN I'm even later.... and btw, if the space bar sounds louder.. might be because we all hit on hit harder than any other keys... the thumb is a pretty powerful evolution feature you know.....

Does the space bar in fact space? If so it is fine. If not then get it fixed!

My space bar makes a different noise on my iBook, on my iMac, and on every other keyboard I have EVER used. I believe the reason would be because it is five times the size of every other key on the board except for the delet and return- so acoustically it would of course have a different sound!

Hope everything else works fine!~

While we shouldn't enjoy other people's misery, that video kinda made me laugh. I guess I just needed a little perspective. I'm anal though, but I'll probably get used to the sound after a while. Right now it sounds like the loudest damnest thing in the world. Oh well, at least it's not squeaking.

Thanks again to everyone for their detailed and quick replies!
