Hi there,

So I recently bought a Samsung T5 SSD external drive for my ageing iMac. My machine struggles to cope with my large photo and music libraries and the plan was to relocate them to the drive and run them from there.

So i copied over my 320gb Photos library but then realised I hadn't formatted it as MAC OS X Extended which you have to do to run iCloud Photo library. I thus formatted it this way, deleted the library and tried to copy it again. Each time I do this I get to a fixed point (225gb) and I get an error message telling me that the library name already exists on that drive and I cannot advance.

I clear the drive, assume it is empty - well it is telling me that all the space is indeed available when I Get Info, only for the same process to reoccur at the same point again and again (half a dozen times or so now).

Is there something really obvious I am missing here?

Thanks,

C.
