I am having an issue with the YouTube app (not YouTube TV) on my ATV 4K, 2nd generation. For a clearer explanation of what is happening, I will use an example. Say I have 45 subscribed to channels in my Subscriptions list. If I scroll down to number 24 and play a video from channel number 24, when I am done and go back to the subscription list, I am taken back to the very top of the subscription list (channel number 1), not back to channel number 24. The old behavior would take me back to channel number 24 and I could continue to scrolling down the subscribed list to channel number 45. Now, after being sent back to the top of the list, I have to scroll all the way back through channel numbers 1-24 to start scrolling from 25 to 45. I hope this makes sense.

I think this started after the update to tvOS18 but I am not 100% sure. I didn't not see any recent update to the YT app that could explain this, so I am assuming it is tvOS related. BTW, it is NOT happening on the internal Sony YT app on my Sony TV so again, it leads me to think it's an tvOS problem.

Has anyone else seen this new/odd behavior? If so, any way to remedy this? If anyone has any thoughts on how to remedy this, I'd appreciate hearing them. Thanks.

I’ve been having different problems with the app since iOS 18. I can’t watch more than one video without restarting the app, videos will randomly start near the end or not at all. The app is becoming unusable to be honest. I’ve even reinstalled the app entirely with no change.

I'm sorry for you both.

But this is exactly why I wait to upgrade to .1
YouTube is too important to me, so I am in particularly glad I did wait when I hear of your troubles.

For what it’s worth I’ve been on tvOS 18 since launch day and I haven’t had any tvOS 18 issues with the YouTube app. I use YouTube more than any other app because I watch live streams for hours every day. My daily average is 8hr 10min. In the last 7 days my Time Watch was 57hr 7min.

I usually wait a while but somehow automatic updates got turned on. Just like Atmos got turned off to stereo in my audio settings. Oh well. Maybe 18.01 will come out soon or YT will update the app.

I have a problem where if I pause a You Tube video, and leave it and my 4K Apple TV displays the screen saver, after say 20 minutes I get a loud static noice from the speakers a break up pixelated image on each third one as side of the screen saver and the video that was paused starts playing again…. All only since the new TV OS. I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled the You Tube all but it’s the same.

I'm seeing all the issues listed above, but only on one of my 3 Apple TV devices.

It's the 1st generation Apple TV 4K with all the issues. Both my HD and a 2nd generation 4K model are working fine.

Has 18.1 cleared up any of the issues mentioned above for anyone? I haven't had a chance to update the ATV yet but I have not seen any newer updates for YT for ATV in the Purchased section of the ATV App Store.

Some brief usage after upgrading to 18.1 shows both the back button and screensaver issues are not fixed.

No crashes but I've not used it much.

However the playback jumping to the end (or part way through) when you start a video hasn't occurred for me since 18.1.

Within the Apple TV YouTube App, ensure the following settings are set:

Settings / Autoplay next video = Off (When you finish a video, another plays automatically)

There has also been a new app update recently. You may have to force update it as Apple TV doesn't do auto updates very fast.

I’m on 18.1 and just updated the app but we still have the issue with the iOS remote app and search on the YT app where it rarely lets you finish typing what you’re searching for.

This is now a long term bug that they absolutely know is a problem. Why won’t they fix it?
