My Touch ID has worked flawlessly since it was introduced. I’ve had 5s, 6, 6s and now a 7, since I upgraded to iOS 11, I’ve had issues with the acceptance of my thumb print. I’ve taken the case off to see if there was an interference with it. Nope. I’ve also deleted my fingerprint from the settings and reinstalled several times.

Have any other members had an issue with this, or is it me?

Have you tried wiping the Touch ID to remove smudges? If your finger is wet, it wouldn't work. You can try add 1-3 of the same fingerprint

Are you running iOS 11.2.1, the latest version? I had issues recognizing my fingerprints in some early iOS 11 versions but not for some time.

I’ve cleaned the sensor and made sure my thumb was dry.

I’m current on the software on my iPad and iPhone. I’ll add my thumb in two more times as print #2 and #3.

It’s weird. The Touch ID has always been very stable and useful to me. Let me see if this improves. Thanks for the suggestions.

Since the debut of iOS 11 I generally have to make 2-3 attempts most of the time to unlock my 8 plus, iPhone 6, and iPad Pro. I have also added additional fingerprints for my thumb, the finger I use 99% of the time. I still have to make multiple attempts. Oddly enough verifying my fingerprint in other apps, baniking, iTunes purchases, etc, works more reliably than unlocking the device. With the iPad Pro, on iOS 10, I rarely had to make multiple attempts.

On the first day of using the iPhone 8 plus (iOS 11.1) I noticed that the touch ID feels slower than the iPad Pro 2 gen (iOS 10.3.3). the iPad Pro always unlocks when I press the home button to wake it, however the iPhone 8 Plus would often simply stay on the lock screen and I would need to rest my finger on it again. This mostly happens after a while of not unlocking the iPhone, but never on the iPad. I upgraded both to iOS 11.2.1 and it is still happening on the iPhone 8 plus, not on the iPad. I even returned the 8 plus and got a new one, same story.

I've tried restart, hard reset, re-registering my fingers, nothing helped.

Mmmmm. Don't need another reason not to update from 10 :(

At first I chalked it up to my imagination but now I’m certain there is difference in this function from iOS 10 to 11. Rarely will my first attempt result in unlocking either device. Sometimes I’m tempted to disable it and just use the passcode entry method, much more reliable.
