Hey all, I’m using a sandisk extreme 1tb external disk and want to experiment with recording ProRes video. However I find it’s very buggy. I’ve cleaned the disk so it’s completely empty, and I’ve tried the usb c cable that came with it plus a spigen thunderbolt cable.

What will happen is I’ll record one clip stop. Begin recording a second and on the second or third clip the stock camera app will freeze. I’ll force close it and after that the drive will no longer be recognized by my 15pm

I’ll have to connect the drive, delete the dcim folder and then reconnect and then the drive will be recognized again

Anyone else experiencing similar behavior? Any suggestions appreciated! I’m leaving for a trip tomorrow and wanted to use the phone for recording and am a little bummed

That SSD uses too much power: 7.5W peak.

Use something like Crucial X6: 3W peak.

iPhone can only pump out 4.5W.
Ahh so power draw is the culprit? Thanks for the feedback, kind of a bummer to need to buy another drive just for external shooting

Replying just to say thanks I tried a crucial x6 2tb drive briefly and it records to external with no issue so that was the problem. Still a little bummed I had to order another external drive and not be able to use the one I already owned
