Issues with base 27'

So I bought the stock 27 inch and while its beautiful and the screen is nice, I've already had some semi-serious issues.

The main issue is laggyness. What I can do on my stock early 2008 MBP is causing pretty bad slowdown especially on a new mac.

I bought this to play poker on and while my macbook pro 2008 version can have both programs I use at the same time, my tracking program, a browser window open and itunes open, this is having trouble having 1 site open, and if theres any flash on any of the webpages, my computer comes to a almost standstill, and forget about music, any sound coming out sounds distorted and pixelated.

Oh yea the MBP was running itself plus a 24 inch monitor at 1920x1080 with zero problems as well.

I don't want to have to return it, but if it can't even do half of what my mbp does with no issues, its a pretty sad replacement :-/ I'm going to try to re-install the OS, but I don't see how that will change anything.

Well, that's definitely not how it's supposed to work. Is it booting slowly as well? There are other folks with the same prob; check out this thread. They re-installed SL and everything runs smooth and fast. Seems odd though that this is required for quite a few people already. Just re-install, and if it doesn't change anything take it back to the store for a new one.

Nope it boots up just fine, just can't seem to handle flash, and two programs opens at the same time without stuttering (such as scrolling now and typing is starting to lag too). Can't re-install till later tonight though due to poker.

Maybe Spotlight still indexing your drives? Or Time Machine doing first backup?

I think there's been some issues with Flash and SL.

I think SL downgrades your flash to an older version.

Go update flash.

Look for a SL update to help hopefully.

I've been having some serious slowdown on Youtube that I think is related.

There might be something wrong with your specific computer but I don't think there is anything wrong with the new iMacs as they are pretty powerful. This is certainly a software issue because I have a 2GHZ C2D ALU iMac with 10 tabs, iTunes burning an mp3 dvd, iCal, NeoOffice, and iPhoto all running right now and everything is smooth as silk.

A reinstallation and reinstalling your ram cards might fix what is going on.

so I figured out the issue, just haven't found a fix yet. The issue is specifically flash. Even banner ads are causing slowdown in safari and firefox and opera. I upgraded. then downgraded to an even older version. Still no fix. I'm seeing what I can do and reading around.

Not the same experience

I'm not getting any slowdown when accessing sites with flash on my 27", so not sure it is affecting all machines.

This is a quote from another thread which might help, it says to repair permisions esp about Flash Player. Give that a shot maybe and let me know I'm interested to hear if that will work seeing as i'm still waiting on my 27":

I called Apple support and now the problem is solved. It had to do with file permissions.

To solve that problem, simply go to Disk Utility, select Macintosh HD and click on Repais Permissions​

I did try repairing permissions and while it said there was a lot of permissions wrong for flash and fixed them, it didn't help. Its actually seemed to have gotten worse. So for now I'm using W7 till I find a fix. Disappointing though. I have Snow Leopard on my MBP with zero flash issues.

Its a known problem, on not all new iMacs, but a lot of them, with one person reinstalling the OS worked...

I have had the same problem. Here is what I have done.

Reinstalled SL from a fresh erase and reinstalled and did NOT transfer my old files over and the problem still was there.

Repaired permissions with no luck

Reset the PRAM with no luck

Took the unit back to the Apple store and got a new one and no luck. Same issue on the new one as well.

I have a case open with Apple Care. This happens not just from using Safari but running ANYTHING on my computer for a extended period. The only thing that resolves is to restart but it is only temporary. I am convinced these new iMac's have issues and it is just requires waiting until Apple finds a fix.

I think SL downgrades your flash to an older version.

SL 10.6.0 shipped with an older Flash version, but the 10.6.1 updated Flash to the newest version.

I fear some of the problems with Flash on the new iMacs might be crummy ATI Radeon drivers. They're new-ish cards for the iMacs (though they have been a BTO option in the MacPros have they not?) so the drivers might improve in the forthcoming (and so far rather hefty) 10.6.2 update.
