Issues with Bootcamp (newbie here)

Hello everyone,

I have a new C2D Macbook - trying out Bootcamp for the first time. I did a slipstream SP2 Windows XP Pro cd.. installed it relatively free of issues. Ran the driver cd and started installation.. it kept on asking me to accept the drivers as they were unsigned. Well at one point my keyboard and mouse stopped working and I couldn't do anything. Everytime I booted in there from than on, my keyboard and mouse doesn't work. A USB mouse is detected, but never initalised.. a USB Keyboard is tricky but I can get it to work. I tried to re-run the setup wizard but it just crashes.

HELP! What am I doing wrong?

I think windows/you must've removed the keyboard+mouse drivers?

Make sure you have the latest version of bootcamp.
Remove the windows partition, recreate it, reinstall windows.
If it happens again, make sure to notice when your mouse/keyboard stopped working, repeat the install, and deny the driver that messed up.

That's the problem - Boot Camp 1.1.2 drivers have major problems with MacBooks and MacBook Pros when doing a clean install. It hoses the keyboard and mouse, and no amount of Windows recovery can get it to work.

Does anyone know where the previous Boot Camp 1.1.1 driver scan still be downloaded?

I stumbled onto a solution for this quite by accident when doing my brother's Macbook.

1) Install XP via Bootcamp
2) Install apple drivers. It'll freeze the keyboard.
3) Re-start XP Installer via boot camp
4) Repair the Windows XP installation
5) Re-Install the apple drivers. They'll go without a hitch.

Thanks, but this didn't work for me. It starts reinstalling the Apple drivers and the keyboard and mouse lock up when it gets to those drivers. Ditto for safe mode, safe mode with command prompt etc.

I had to completely hose Windows XP and start again, then manually installed most of the Apple drivers. I then rebooted and ran the Apple installer (whilst crossing my fingers), which this time completed without crashing. It's safer just to use 1.1.1 first , then update the drivers to 1.1.2, but as I said I cannot find 1.1.1 to download any longer.

Guess this post is mainly to bump the thread, as I'm having the same problem after a clean install on my black Macbook (the 1GB/100GB version).. two finger scrolling works fine, tapping does not work, two finger right-click also doesn't work.

Paradoxically, all this worked fine in the Vista Beta, which I would have kept had the EFI update not made it think it was now on a new computer, and force me to reactivate etc (I'd lost the key by that point and the Beta programme had ended - now it's out, cardboard cut-out tech support at my work won't let me have me a proper copy either for some reason (seems developers take precedence over testers <sniff...>), hence I'm now wasting my weekend struggling with XP Pro SP2 ;( (all just so I can have IE7 in a second environment... <sigh>)

Tried reinstalling; first install I had the BSOD issue, this second time it didn't happen, but the trackpad issue remains (no keyboard problems as some seem to be reporting).

Have three devices with question marks in Device Manager: "USB Human Interface Device", "Unknown device" and "PCI Device" (I gather one of these is the IR port - no idea if resolving these would have any effect on the trackpad issue...)

Has anyone had the same and managed to fix it?

Has anyone tried running a full WindowsUpdate before installing the Apple drivers? That's my next random idea to try to fix this..

Hey Guys -

Here's a big hint: Once you get XP installed (Int. SP2), DO NOT install Bootcamp just yet. Go back to your Mac environment, open Disk utility and make a image (compressed) of your XP partition. It'll be around 5gb in size.. that way if you screw it up somehow, you can just restore the image and not worry about re-installing xp.. again.

How i've got my drivers to work flawlessly:
- Integrate SP2 into the setup cd.. DO NOT INSTALL SP2 after..
- Don't install or modify anything except:
Go to System properties (right click my computer) and go to the hardware tab. go to drivers box, and select 'ignore'.. than windows update and select 'do not check..'

Install bootcamp..

Works fine for me.

Hi guys! I'm a newbie and would like some information about boot camp. I intend to use windows only for gaming, so first I would like to know if it is easy to uninstall windows and all in windows installed programs. is it? can I do both things on one shot? Second: is there a possibility that installing windows with bootcamp and playing with my machine ruins my machine? or does it affect mac os? Thanks a lot!!!!

First thing: Keep in mind that Bootcamp is Beta software - and it's still in testing. With that said - I haven't had any issues with it.

It doesn't affect Mac at all! The actual installer makes it very easy to install Windows, and it's very easy to delete Windows if you don't want it again (Takes about 15 seconds.. really.)

I only use windows for gaming as well - I've had some issues with my reader reading cds properly, but can't do much. I got GTA: Vice city working today, no slowdowns at all!
