I just bought a brand new Mac mini 2.26ghz on January 1 at an Apple store so that I could hook it up to my UN46B7100 Samsung to be used as an HTPC. The problem I'm having is that for the connection between the mini and the tv I decided to purchase the monoprice mini displayport to hdmi cable(not the adapter) and the only thing my tv displays is check signal. With that message I proceeded to change hdmi ports on the tv and no luck whatsoever so I called monoprice and they sent me a replacement cable which to no luck did not work either. My question is, could there be an issue with the actual mini displayport on the mini or could it be that I received two bad cables from the same company . Or is there something in the settings I have to change to get the mini displayport to work?

Order

The issue has to do with the order that you turn each device on and connect the cables. I forget the correct order but it's somewhere on this site and on a few others. Specifically about Mac MiniDisplayPort to Samsung HDTVs.

Finally figured out the issue and it turned out to be that the monoprice cables were junk because once I tried using an official mini displayport to dvi cable attached to a dvi to hdmi cable everything worked fine without having to play with the settings on the mini.
