I bought a new Mac mini base model last night and as soon as I turned it on I noticed a problem. The screen goes blank and when it comes back, I am unable to use mouse and keyboard. After a minute or so, it goes blank again and then I am able to use the mouse and keyboard again. Anyone have a fix for this or should I just exchange it.

Are you hooked up HDMI via the HDMI port?

IF so, try the adapter that came with your computer to attach your HDMI monitor via the TB Port.

If it's not that I have not a clue - though I would still try a different monitor connection.

Good luck!

I'd exchange it immediately. It shouldn't be malfunctioning, and it's not your job to troubleshoot for Apple.

My wife took it back tonight and got a replacement. I'll hook it up tomorrow and see of this one is better.

If the same problems come back, then it's _not_ the Mini.

It's either your connecting cable or the monitor.

Important considerations:
What is the monitor (make and model) to which you're trying to connect?
What _type_ of connection are you using?
Are you connecting to the MiniDisplayPort?
Or... to the HDMI port?

Ok, so this one is doing the same thing? I am connecting it to my 47in HD tv using hdmi cable. So I am about to connect it to a different monitor and see if we still have the problem.

Search for the thread on "blinking screen" or "snow screen" that started back in Nov 2012. There is an HDMI issue with the HD4000 GPU that showed up in both PC's and Mac's, and I don't think it was ever fully resolved. I had the issue with a 2012 Mini 2.6 thru HDMI to a Samsung 40" LCD TV. So I returned the 2012 Mini, and bought a 2011 Mini 2.5 with discrete Radeon 6630m GPU, and have seen no problems. You might return this one, and buy a 2011 refurb, or wait for the Haswell refresh, since this issue appears to have never been fixed.

Well it turns out the issue is that "I'm a moron". Out of all the HDMI cables that I have, I chose to use the broken one. So the issue is now fixed. Thanks Guys.
