Alright, I looked around on this forum a little bit to find a solution to my problem, but I'm not finding much.

Over the past few months or so I've had issues with ripping CDs into itunes on my ibook G4. Any CD I put in will rip, but its like layered with an incredible distorted static noise. I'm not really sure what's causing it but i'm guessing something in the drive itself is to blame.

I've had a lot of issues with burning CDs too. Lots of issues with it failing to burn properly or its just crapping out before finishing.

I'm sitting in class currently, however when I get home I'll upload a small mp3 clip or something of what i'm talking about.

I appreciate any input. Thanks.

EDIT: Here is a clip of what I was talking about

I have a similar problem with my iBook G4 drive. It's the combo drive's problem I'm pretty sure as I have a tough time getting iTunes to rip or even play a CD. And sometimes it will rip but take forever and the resulting file is very static-y. My drive is EFFed and I've known about it for a while but figured whatever. I will be replacing it with a DVD-R drive soon enough.

Have you tried using an optical drive cleaner? I'm not sure how well they work in slot drive machines, but it might be worth a shot. :)
I looked at that option and all the cleaners said specificially not to be used in Slot loads. :(
