I consistently see two basic issues with the Safari browser on my iPhone.

  1. The keyboard does not pop up when I select a text field
  2. I cannot click on any of the links on a webpage. I can bring up web-pages using either bookmarks or typing in the URL, but once the page opens up, none of the links are active.
Both these issues occur randomly and are not related to each other. The only way I can resolve these is by re-booting the phone.

Has anyone else observed this? Is there a better way to get around this without having to reboot?

Any 3rd party apps installed? And if so, any related to the keyboard? i.e. keyboard themes/customization?

Reason is, on my first hacking of the phone (pre-1.1.1), I had countless issues with Safari, and anything that was text-entry dependent. SMS messaging would take at least 20 seconds to come up, but that was caused by me customizing the text bubble colors and such...

A lot of issues that become resident are due to some third party apps. I'm not saying they're "bad" per-se, as I have the heck hacked outta my 1.1.1, but nothing that is modifying the essential parts of it.

Nope. My phone has never been jailbroken, and is on 1.1.1. Also, I see the issue happen only on Safari, that too only for text-fields. The keyboard pops up fine when I try to enter a URL. So, this is not across the board.

Am I the first one to see these issues?

That happened to me yesterday too. Just hold down the home button until it quits out the program, then open safari again and it should work. If that doesn't work, hold down the sleep/wake button and the home button for about 8 seconds until you see the apple logo to reset the phone. that should work.
