Never mind, it was a poorly seated cable. Oddly enough though the other USB connection went completely dead so with a drive connected I restarted and all connections are well again. This is the pro version of the FASTA card btw...

That's great news, don't delete the thread, it has value in showing that the Caldigit card was not an issue with your device. Besides, I'd like here back from you on some file transfer results.

Yeah, on the card end, I recently re-did a bunch of things on the machine including a processor upgrade, must have came loose when sliding the box back. See the update at top....

Right off hand, I have a OWC 240GB Envoy Pro SSD that I use to transfer large RAW files, etc in between my 13" Retina and the Mac Pro. I did a test, transfer three raw file folders at 22GB.

From the OWC to the retina, 1TB PCIe, 450-570MB/s.
From the OWC to my Mac Pro, 500 GB 840 EVO in the Apricorn V2 card, 270-370MB/s.

eSata is limited to the spinner drives I use so figure around 180-220MB/s max.

Great info. I'm considering pulling my Inateck (I have 2 USB3 cards installed) and trying the Caldigit and eSATA for bootability. Thanks for the insight.
