Hi everyone,

I just wanted to see if other people are experiencing this same issue. Ever since upgrading to Mountain Lion, my Bower & Wilkins MM-1s have been intermittent through the USB part of them.

I've tried the following:

  • Removed the soundpreferences plist from ~/library/preferences, then restarted.
  • Tested in new user--occurs there.
  • Ran the Apple Hardware test.
  • SMC/PRAM resets.
  • Tested on other computers not on Mountain Lion. They work perfectly fine.

Anyone else experiencing this?

I have the exact same speakers (which I adore), but I've not had any problems whatsoever since upgrading to Mountain Lion.

What model Mac do you have? If it's in warranty, it may be worth taking it to Apple to let them check it out. It could be a hardware issue, although since it started with 10.8, I'm guessing it's an audio driver problem that will (hopefully) be fixed in 10.8.1.

Do you use the USB cord or the audio cord for the speakers? It works with my audio cord.

I have a mid 2010 2.4 ghz MacBook Pro, details are in the signature.

Ah, sorry! I didn't notice your signature. I'm using the USB cable (always have since I got them) and not once had an issue with the speakers.

I'm really sorry I can't be more helpful, since problems with audio seem to be particularly difficult to solve on Macs (due to the lack of access to drivers and advanced settings.

Seems that no-one else has anything to offer, and all I can suggest is contacting Apple or Bowers & Wilkins.

No problem! I contacted Apple; they escalated to their Engineering team. Bower & Wilkins reports that it is on Apple's side (which is fine, as it occurs with other USB speakers).

Were Apple able to sort out the issue for you?
