Comments? :)

Someone is going to come up with this - no doubt about that. I like it, but the cutout Apple logo on it is a bit too much. I would just leave the metal part there solid, akin to the stand used by Apple on iMac, ACD, etc.

:) Thanks for the comments!

I like it without the Apple logo too -- I was just trying something different, and I thought it looked neat. :)

Omg this idea is hurting my head.. lol !! I'll see what I can do.. :)
:D

heh, just use a suction cup deal like they do on GPS holders for cars. :p J/k, I'm sure there's gotta be something better than that.

Anyway, I like the design ... would be cool to have an iMac like stand for it.

I was totally imagining a Suction style hold, but I couldnt figure out a way to incorporate it...

:) ooh, the potential for what this iPad 'may' bring is nice...

Actually, this is what I was thinking. At 1.5lbs a fairly small suction cup would be needed to hold it up. Putting it on a stiff ball-joint would let you spin it around and angle it to whatever arbitrary position you want. With a BT keyboard it would make a nice dock setup, if you also incorporated a nice way to route charging cables.

What exactly are you copyrighting?

The iPad which the copyright text sits on, the image of the iPad, both of which Apple own?

Maybe the stand which is an iMac stand graphic that has been photoshopped with some hinges? Also Apple's.

The dock connector for the iPad, oh wait it just floats in space.

I don't have a problem with you photoshopping your idea to give us a visual reference, but since you didn't do the work to actually make anything connect and hold the iPad in place, facilitate power out of that or anything else, it is completely absurd that you copyright it.

By "iStand" I thought you were referring to the experience of the nerds lining up to purchase the iPad on launch day.

No, no, no. They line up several days in advance. It's called 'iCamp'.
Should I copyright that?

apple's iPad dock connector and keyboard with dock connector acts as a stand perfectly well. this idea is useless.

why not just get the Apple dock?

Well, the Apple dock and this design fail in that they lock the iPad into a single display orientation. The ideal dock would, imo, let you swivel the device around to use it either landscape or portrait. At the moment, Apple is offering two stands (the dock/keyboard dock and the case) which let you set up the iPad in a single orientation each, but not one that lets you use it either way.

Of course, the dock's primary function is to connect the iPad to something (AC power, USB, video out, keyboard) so the positioning of the dock connector is mostly at fault for not allowing both orientations.

I agree that a 2nd dock connector would solve this problem. Someone could make a case that has a dock connector in landscape mode, routing the cable around the frame and plugging into the actual dock connector but I doubt that case would then fit into the apple dock.

For me the Apple case makes the most sense as it allows for landscape typing, web viewing as well as more vertical video watching. I think the home button, dock connector, etc, should have all been designed in landscape mode, like any monitor, b/c I think that will be the bulk of iPad usage.

It will be interesting to see the 3rd party cases that flood the market and how they comparing in utility to the Apple case. In the past all case makes were really going for was protection for the most part for iPods and iPhones, but the iPad really demands that the case assist with viewing and use.

On another note check out www.macessity.com as they will probably be making something for the iPad.

Yeah it's gotta rotate, hold the iPad securely so you can touch the screen firmly as needed AND be easy to snap in and out of (without causing wear to the frame or bezel).

I'd buy one if it did that and pair it with the BT keyboard rather than buy the keyboard dock.

I'll be using an iPad as my primary computer so this kind of home base set up is actually very important to me.

One thing to consider in the iPadAlone/iPad as my primary or only computer is that the iPad can download media from the iTunes store for Apps, music, and video, but the device is designed just like an iPod or iPhone to sync to a computer which is why it is the perfect complement to an iMac or MacPro much more so than say a MacBook Pro. Forget the laptop, have a desktop and an iPad. But most likely you will need more computing resources than are just available on the iPad and you will have more media than the iPad can hold, so you will need something to selectively sync media from. What if you lose or want to upgrade your iPad to a newer model. First you would have to create a backup of that iPad on your computer before you could transfer all your media to a new one.

It is a companion product.

Simmer...

LOL

No no, I am not trying to COPYRIGHT the name or anything like that - just the concept design and such .. ;)

The idea of the iSTAND.. just the general idea... nothing more.. nothing less.. nothing to deep.

I Dont think the idea is useless.. because with the BT stand for the keyboard doesn't allow the Apple iPad to be tilted back and forward.. thats the idea behind the iStand... :) Just an idea tho.. :)

i see you added a isight to your ipad?

I Did ya... just thought I'd so it to see what a full bundles iPad would look like -cause really, in MY opinion, it should have an iSight device or something like that...

I mean, its really no difference than people wanting a front facing camera on the iphone, so why not the ipad? :) Wishful thinking tho!! :D :D
