New 16" M1 MAX:

After applying custom fans rules (low = 2000rpm if any sensor > 50c), no matter what I do the fans remain on.

Tried increasing rule to 55c, setting 'system controlled' instead of automatic controlled, and nothing changes.

Fans totally stuck at 2000rpm.

Anyone else run into this?

Is iStat menus updated to work with M1 sensors? I know the intel version relies on extra intel software to work fully.

Are you sure this isn't expected behavior? On previous 15" and 16" MacBook Pros the fans were always on no matter what, and they were only completely off on 13" models.

Absolutely not expected behavior. The M1 MAX/Pro models run with no fans on nearly 100% of the time under heavy load. There's definitely a bug in iStats here that don't let the fans turn off once you've set custom fan rules.

(annoyingly, the main reason I purchased it)

It's not a bug, but instead it's their fan control profiles not updated. I guess you better choose the system controlled profile first, then report the issue on their forum and support page.
