iPod Istore account

I know this has been talked about a lot, but all the threads that I can find about my problem are dated. I need an Istore account, but I don't own a credit card. I do have an apple ID that I used to buy my ipod in the apple store, but that doesn't seem to work because I didn't pay by credit card. Is there a way to make my apple ID to work in the Itunes store without giving them a credit card number?
