iSync agent not installing on my Nokia 6680

I just got a Nokia 6680. I paired it with my Mac (10.4.3), and sent files via bt with no problem. I then opened iSync and added the device. I got up a message that iSync could see it, but not connect to it (no security message, just couldn't connect).

I then deleted the pairing on both phone and PB, restarted both and started again from bt prefs / add device. At no time does my Mac attempt to install iSync agent, which I understand I have to have on my Symbian phone. And the only choice I'm given during configuration is to allow the phone to let my computer access Internet, not to sync contacts etc.

I've searched and found good instructions on another site as to how to make sure my phone's prefs will allow programs to be installed, so I know the phone is good to go.

Anyone else have this phone, this problem, and manage to solve it?

Has anyone else experienced that the iSync agent install doesn't occur when pairing/synching a new phone? Can the agent be installed in the phone separately in some way?

Weird... I did not have problems with Isync.. and my NOKIA 6620 for paring.. but I did have problems using the phone as modem via bt... I had to enable the phone's security conectivity.. everything that says secure should be in NORMAL... try that... verify your phone's bt preferences..

I can´t find anything in the prefs that´s not set to normal.

Sigh. Guess I better just go ahead and start writing in all 144 contacts by hand...

Check again... or go to your cell provider... If Isyn can detect the phone it means it will work.. it must have some security restriction that is not allowing the paring... check both set ups... computer and phone.

On default settings, my Mac installed iSync Agent on my 6680 with no probs. As above, it must be a setting somewhere. You could always try a reset:

*#7780# - Soft Reset. (Restores ini files from rom but preserves user data (photos, 3rd party apps etc)

*#7370# - Hard Reset. (Reformats the C: drive. All applications and files stored on this drive will be lost and clean default files will be rewritten)

Thanks you guys, it's good to know that fact that iSync sees the phone, means it will work. The bt setup only lets me choose "connect to internet using your phone" (not exact wording), it doesn't ask me to let it install the agent. So I'll try:

1) Soft reset
2) Contact service provider
3) Contact Nokia

And when all this is done (might be a couple weeks - my service provider is slow to answer mail), I'll post again with the solution.

Try this…

On your Mac open the Bluetooth assistant and go to configure (or set up.. can’t remember wording) new device… then choose mobile phone and press continue… it should give you a code for paring that you need to introduce in you cellphone.. then it should automatically open Isync…

It took me several attempts before I got my cell to work as a modem via Bluetooth but the paring with Isync was immediate..

Ps. My apple dealer installed me a specific script for my phone in order to work as a modem... but I got the sync way before I got the script.. IT HAS TO WORK... keep trying.. after all is an Apple IT CAN NOT BE COMPLICATED... IT WAS MADE TO WORK.. LOL...

I've done all this - the problem isn't that the phone won't pair, it will. The problem is that at no point in the process am I prompted to install the iSync Agent in my phone, which I understand is the necessary, missing element here. My phone shows up in iSync after pairing, but I get a message "Can't connect to this device".

I think the phone will work fine as a modem, because I'm prompted during pairing to enter the necessary info for that.

Apple works, it's Nokia I'm not too sure of right now...

Well, I took the SIM card out and put it in again, and now the iSync Agent installed. All 144 contacts are now in the new phone
