iSync butchers contacts w cell phone

I just synced my Motorola v60i to iCal & address book for the first time.

It worked allright, but many names had a space put before them...thus messing up the alphabetic listing. Modifying these on the phone will delete the phone numbers in the OS X address book.

Seems to do this with any contacts that only have a business name listed - no personal contact.

I guess I could try entering the business name in the First & Last fields, but I'd like to keep it consistent across the address book.

Any way to have the business names fall into their appropriate place in the phone's alphabetic listing without jumping through hoops?

Also, when it 'synced' the calendar with the next 8 week's appointments, it decided to go ahead and erase the next weeks in iCal rather than added those events to the 8 blank weeks on the cell phone.

WTF is this thing doing? iSync doesn't appear to have nearly the level of conflict resolution that the Motorola TrueSync software had when I synced to the PC.

iSync works fine for my iBook and v60i (Verizon). I tried syncing my phonebooks, but I didn't like the way iSync added phone numbers to my cell phone. So all I use iSync for is to sync iCal to my v60.

As for the v60 erasing events on iCal, you might want to check your settings. I created a calender in iCal called "v60" and the events that are created with the v60 go into that calender.

I've never had a problem where events in iCal get deleted.

Maybe others have experienced this and can share their solutions.

iSync did a very good job with the contacts (phone numbers and email addresses) that contained a contact name with the company, but just not with any that only had a company name and no personal contact.

Guess I could just sync once, then make the changes on the phone and never sync the contacts again (just have to double enter everything from now on).

I'll take a look at the calendar settings later, and I see the option to put events created on the phone in a particular calendar, but that shouldn't really be causing the deletion of records when merely syncing.

I've had a generally good experience with iSync and my v60i. One thing I noticed with syncing contacts was that the telephone numbers got kinda screwed up the first sync. I like to have the format 1-xxx-xxx-xxxx for my numbers, and thats how they are showed on the v60 screen. However, on the first sync, the dashes didn't appear in Address book. No biggie though, I manually entered them into the Address book, and now every sync it shows up the way I want on both devices. I only store contact name and number, so I haven't had the other problems listed.

As for the calendar, I've had a few instances where iSync has deleted information from the device I created it on when I went to sync with the other device (either the computer or phone). I like ftaok's suggestion on creating a separate iCal calendar for the v60. I'll give that a try.

Hmm..

My numbers are XXX.XXX.XXXX, as the cell phone doesn't need the 1 prefix. It's handled all of the numbers fine, just the names of businesses without personal contacts.

e.g. - Blooming Success Florist becomes:

Blooming-Success-Floris

I don't mind the dashes, or even truncating the long name, but the space before kills the alphabetic listing (and searches on anything beginning with the first letter), and any attempts to fix this on the phone causes fits with the OS X address book, and eventually leads to multiple entries for the same contact.

Just surprising. All other experiences with OS X have been great - well thought out and executed. Guess it's just a problem with talking to particular phones.

Found OnSync, which does a much better job syncing contacts.

I highly recommend for anyone experiencing similar problems as I, or unhappy with iSync in general.
