iPhone 8 Ios 16.x.x
MacBook Pro 2021 M1 running Monterey
Here is something new
I am rebuilding my "music" folder taking dvd's on my
2011 MBP then putting them on a thumb drive, then copy to my
new 2021 MBP..Anyway I take the "Eagles" folder and drag
it to the Music app... but then the Eagle folder disappears from my original folder... just gone...
another interesting item is the some of the M4a songs will
not transfer to the Music app, even though it shows a green plus sign... what is going on. I'm totally lost and upset..

I have a good music file about 450 songs
the other day while playing music on my iPhone, I found that the Beach Boy playlist had only 4 songs.
So I opened the Music on the MB and did a syc..
yesterday I opened Music and wanted to play some songs only to find that the Playlist title was there, and so were the names
of the songs, but not music... just a popup telling me to "locate" that was every playlist...
Now I don't store my music with the MB, I store it in a separate folder named (music) I do the same for (video)
So my iPhone does have all my songs, but my MB does not...
None of my songs are bought from Apple, they are from CD/dvd I've owned for years
so How can take my iPhone music and place it on my MB...
thanks
Best

Recently ran into same issue, very annoying.
I solved it by plugging the phone into my Mac and re-uploading the errant playlist.
iPhone 14 PM, iOS 16.2 Dev Beta 3

oops
My Iphone is up to date,,, its the movie app on my Mac that
is screwed up.. it lost some of the playlists...
I was going to use a iphone to mac software, but no real
detail on what happens.. I don't want to loose all my music.
I have restored most of the playlist now, but 4 or 5 are
not on my macbook any longer, even went into time machine
but they were not there.. I know long let time machine backup all the time, I do it manually at 11PM, if I'm home..
wish they had made that an option to set a time for backup...
It's not like I make a lot of changes each day..
