I deleted by accident some folders with data from an external hard drive. I have not wrote anything on that hard drive, it is intact. I was able to recover files only, so I know how to do that.

What I want to recover are full folders with the data.

Does anybody knows if that is possible to do, to recover folders?

Thank you in advance.

If it is a SSD drive you are probably out of luck if you have emptied the trash?

If you did not empty the trash it might still be in the trash?

If you did empty the trash and it is a spinning drive / HDD you might be able to use a data recovery program like Data Rescue

"I was able to recover files only, so I know how to do that."

That's all you're going to get.
And just be glad that you "got what you got".

Many times, folks can't get back the files at all.
But you have the files -- that's what matters.

You should create NEW FOLDERS, and then manually move the data into those folders.

I predict that's the best you're going to be able to do.

That hard drive has 2 folders with a specific structure that I won't be able to duplicate easily. It will take many days to do that, so I better start from scratch again with those projects.

Thanks for your answer.

Only single files can be recovered with software, not the whole folder with it's structure. I thought that Peter Norton the guy from the 80s had solved this problem.

Thank you for your answer!

Glad you got your files, that is the important thing ?

My understanding is that Data rescue does recover file structure and folders - and they have a trial download - perhaps I am wrong about the folders - anyway sounds like you don't really need it

FWIW - I purchased Data rescue once for a failed drive (HDD) that I had to take apart and un-stick the reader from the platter and Data rescue got all my data back off that drive.
