OMG! Another MacRumors drama queen with a ridiculously over-the-top headline.
I totally agree! I had an iPhone that didn't make it past two years, I think, the mini 5c to the 6s, I didn't come here to whine how unfortunate I was to have such a lackluster iPhone. (My 5c.)

OP should have known the risks, electronics aren't perfect.

Sometimes, I wish the complainers that come here to whine would try to build an electronic empire and see how hard it is to create electronics that meet their standards.

You’re apparently missing the obvious.

Apple sells all of their laptops with 2 meter cables. They sell the iPad Pro for a far higher price than some of those laptops, and yet they ship the iPad with a cable half the length, for no apparent reason.

Instead of asking why I’m asking this question, it seems more obvious to ask why is Apple doing it this way. It makes no sense.
The obvious thing to me here is this is what you should have led with - why do laptops have a longer cable than ipads?

Seems reasonable enough given how they market the ipad more and more as such a capable device that can be your laptop with a magic keyboard.

To me use case scenario is what matters, price is irrelevant here.

I simply voiced an opinion that Apple’s continued inclusion of a 1 meter cable with a $1,300 iPad Pro that they market as if it’s comparable to their laptops is ridiculous when they ship every single laptop with 2 meter cable. Apparently this was an outlandish thing to say around here. I’m not sure whether to take this as a signal that the younger generations of Apple fans are defensive of any Apple critique, or people just get upset when they see someone use a scary intense words like “utterly ridiculous”, as if we have to be careful about offending Apple’s feelings or something.
You're not wrong, but not necessarily completely right either. Plenty of users won't use their ipad while charging, so a longer cable won't really do much at all for them.

If you need a longer cable, just buy one. Or better, buy a bunch of them. I know, a premium product shouldn't require you to buy a better charger immediately upon purchase, but that just is what it is.

And finally, a bit of life advice. Some things are worth spending thought and time on. Other things aren't. This is one of those things that you should just drop a few bucks on what you need and move on. I don't blame you for digging in here. I've dug in over far less. But it just isn't worth your time or energy.

Yes but an extra 3 meters would cost .02 cents more meaning about $2 million more. So the executive that saved Apple $2 million doesnt get his $200,000 bonus.

Speculation based on my usage and observations of others, take with a big grain of salt and a YMMV.

Laptops seem to be more frequently sitting on a desk than ipads, they also seem to more frequently be charging while in use. Thus a 2m cable to reach the outlet behind/near the desk or table makes sense. ipads seem to most frequently get charged while not in use, and sitting on a night stand or kitchen side counter with an outlet close by, where a 1m cable is plenty (and a 2m cable may be overkill/clutter.

All that said, good quality braided 2m cables are readily available and inexpensive. Anker currently has a two for $9 sale.

I also think the default cable should be 2m but I personally need something even longer. I use this Anker 100w, 10-foot cable, which is $10 on Amazon. I route it behind my desk and I use it for charging many different devices. I've deliberately placed it behind my desk so when I need to charge my iPad but still need to work, I just flip my iPad upside down and use my iPad without the cable getting in the way. Maybe Apple thinks people are just buying longer after market cables.

Laptops probably have a longer cable because people generally use their iPads and iPhones in between charges, but often tether laptops to use for hours at a time, or even semi-permanently.

This point has been made so many times here, but it seems to go over everyone's head.
