Is it worth while hanging around to see IF Apple are going to release a new Mac Pro in whatever form or should I go and buy a nice new shiny gaming PC which in real terms of OS longevity will last longer ?

What software do you want to run?

If it's games, get a gaming PC for half the cost with better performance.

If it is macOS applications then.... you may want to wait. But you'll probably be disappointed with the price is my guess.

I'm not quite jaded enough to think that Apple won't release a new Mac Pro this year, or, that it will be a non-upgradable & expensive design failure.
So, my vote is on... wait and see.

But, having said that, I wonder how many of us will actually be able to afford to buy it. I'm pretty sure I can't justify putting out the cash that Apple will be asking for it.

It'll likely be "2019 Mac Pro vs. divorce" in my case. o_O

I just find it insane that in order to get an Apple machine with a half decent GPU in it, i need to spend almost 7.5k australian

https://www.apple.com/au/shop/buy-mac/imac-pro

I built a machine with 2x Vega 64s, 32 GB of RAM and 8 cores for just over half that.

Sure, its not a Xeon W, but seriously Apple... $8,179 in order to get a box with a single vega 64... sure the monitor is nice, blahblah, but i don't need one.

$6500 AU for an 8 core trashcan with some 6 year old GPUs in it...
