When purchasing a song in iTunes, you login with your apple account.

Say my email address is dotdotdot@dotdotdot.com and I realize I want dotdotdot@dotdotdot.net to be my default email address. I can change it and download songs under the new name, BUT:

When I right click my songs, it still displays my old email address! How can I change this

I wish I knew, when I got my new PB and transferred music, half of the songs were unplayable. Then I realized that I had changed my email address and so songs were connected to two email addresses instead of just one. It was easy to fix, but I think the upshot is that if you change your email address, you'll end up with songs under multiple names. I couldn't find a work around.

What did you do?

I do not understand exactly what you mean or exactly what you want, yet here is what I know.

Once a song is purchased and downloaded, that song file's account ownership cannot be changed. However, I think you are asking something different.

iTunes songs are purchased and "owned" by an account name, which just happens to look exactly like an email address, the account name and corresponding email address do not need to be the same, yet most of the time they are the same. If you later change the email address associated with that account, that does not change the original account name, just the corresponding email address. The account name stays the same and is not changeable. So, previously purchased songs will continue to be owned by the original account name.

The only way to get a new account name is to open a completely new iTunes Music Store account. However, then you will have some previous purchased songs with an old account owner and some with the new account as owner. I guess that is why iTunes allows for up to five account authorizations per computer.

I hope that helps. If that is totally different from what you were asking, then just disregard.

ok what i think you need to do is go to apple.com, and change your apple id, this is a pain in the butt but should work. you have to log in under your current id and whatnot, from there you can change your settings including your email address.

I know this, but I'm afraid to do this due to all the authorization needed with the songs... and I dont want to illegally remove the DRM, I just want it to update.

the account will stay the same because your name will still be attached to it as well as your billing info and address, it only changes your email addresss, ive actually done this without a problem, if anything, if your not sure about it i would call apple support and see what they say about the situation, but i think you will be just fine

OK so let me get this:

1- I purchase a song tagged to dot@mac.com, registered to Dot X3.
2- I change my email address to x3@mac.com
3- I download a song tagged to x3@mac.com, registered to Dot X3.
4- I switch computers
5- I authorize the newest song, tagged to x3@mac.com, and the song dot@mac.com is automatically authorized as well because it belongs to Dot X3?

yepp thats how it works, your email addresss its just a login id basically, which is why its editible
