iPod Itouch 8g. Pages jump on their own

I am new to the forum so hear is my question: my sons relatively new Itouch jumps all over the place from the point of when it is turned on. music plays momentarily then jumps to the next song, that sort of stuff. It may have dropped, due to slight chip in glass near speaker, as well as slight chip on left near volume control. I dont think moisture is the issue. when the menu is selected it will return to that page then advance forward to where you came from. It was purchased from Best Buy, x-mas. Do they take care of it or do I have to send to apple?
