I paid more than that for a Roku few years back just to get netflix and thats it. I built an XBMC box. Which is great for my ripped movies but cryptic to use for anything else.

Would like to see apple tv do more but for $99 I can live with it. I also believe at this price point it can see much wider adoption. The simplicity will also help with adoption. If it succeeds and the adoption rates are enough it will get souped up over time just like the iphone did. Better believe they will also bring the app store into the equation.

I am buying one but will keep my XBMC.

In my opinion this is designed to bring in the masses not the techies. But when this stuff goes mainstream we will get the explosion of cool tech just like we now have with iphone and other devices.

I ordered one today.

For $99 I'm taking the plunge. I've been wanting to stream Netflix anyway and this is a nice compact unit to do so. I actually have an ethernet cable I'm going to hook it up to, so hopefully streaming will go smoothly.

I'm exactly the target audience here. My wife and I watch 1-2 movies per week and I have no desire to start hoarding films and TV shows on a hard drive somewhere. I'm just not the collector type. I can watch a movie once and be happy. It's something to do on a Sunday night, I don't need to physically own a bunch of movies.

Let's hope it works well...

I can see netflix being one of the biggest selling points in the US (and soon-to-be UK so long as Apple gets licensing with Netflix for here!). It's supposedly completely silent, unlike an Xbox 360 or PS3 lol..

Yeah netflix and $99 put me over the top.

Lots of whining from various cheese lovers, but I mean $99. GEts your iTunes to your TV. Does Netflix. Comes with a nice little remote and also youtube, flickr, ..... plus has apple interface.

dock

Or you consider it as a premium dock with HDMI connectivity to TV for iPad/iPhone. The dock + vga adapter is $60, for $30 more you get a better connectivity with your TV, netflix is an added bonus for US customers.

The apps itself sits on iPad/iPhone, and atv is a wireless connectivity solution for place shifting videos etc.

HULU is what would really make this nice. But at $99 with netflix and ability for my families iOS devices to put up pictures and videos right of device will make it well worth $99.
