Update: This worked a second time, I'm making a video right now of the process.
Okay, I jail broke a 3G iphone (3.1.2) for a friend. He wanted to be able to use tmobile. I did all the necessary jailbreaks and add-on's to make that process work. Then I got a -113 as the carrier logo.....****.

So, I figured no prob, i"ll just restore and be just fine and start it all over again. However, as most of you know, with lameTunes (iTunes 9) only allowing the restore to upgrade to 3.1.3 this wasn't an option ! That was until I found the trick to FORCE itunes to restore a previous version by doing the following

How to update / restore your iPhone/iPod using the downloaded IPSW file:

1. Download the firmware for your device
2. OPTION-click (on Macs) or SHIFT-click (on PCs) on the Update / Restore button in iTunes
3. Now you will be able to tell iTunes to use the IPSW file you downloaded to update / restore your iPhone/iPod

NOTE: To be able to download iPhone/iPod firmware directly from Apple you will have to follow these steps:
1. Make sure you are using iTunes 8. Connect your iPhone to your computer.
2. When iTunes opens, select your iPhone under Devices in the Source List on the left.
3. In the iPhone Summary pane, click Check for Update.
4. Click Download and Install. Do not disconnect your iPhone until the update has finished.

So I used the OPTION-click to locate my 3.1.2 ipsw file, but i wasn't out of the woods yet. It goes though the restore proccess as normal, but once it gets to the end, it throws up a
ERROR 1015
Error 1015: This error is caused by attempts to downgrade the iPhone or iPod touch's software. This can occur when you attempt to restore using an older .ipsw file. Downgrading to a previous version is not supported. To resolve this issue, attempt to restore with the latest iPhone or iPod touch software available from Apple.

In my panic, irrational mind I freak and launch blackra1n ! And BAM ! Im totally restored ! and with the blackra1n jailbreak !
This literally just happen, so i'll keep you all updated with the rest of the process

Well the first part of the process is exactly how one downgrades or updates the firmware on a 3G, then option + restore to select the IPSW you want.

As far as launching Blackra1n at that specific time: I have seen Blackra1n do so many different things, both good and bad, nothing about it surprises me any longer. Lucky you !

Well, I used the pwnage 3.1.5 tool and build a custom ipsw and did a full restore via iTunes.
Set the custom restore as an UNACTIVATED and now its running on tmobile without any problems thus far. :D

Tip: You would have a lot less problems if you read the Dev-Teams blog, those guys are genius. Everything i read and try from that site WORKS perfect !

PS dhlizard I have been reading a bunch of your posts on random errors, tips, tricks, and I have to say thanks, YOu really know your stuff !

so am i reading this correctly, that you were able to restore to 3.1.2 even though apple is not signing the firmware and you did not had shsh saved?

if this is correct, can you be kind enough to post step by step guide on how to use blackra1n vodoo?

His phone was still on 3.1.2. If the phone is still on a stock 3.1.2 fw with an old iboot, then blackra1n can jailbreak it, as it doesn't require a full restore

Oh yeah, that, plus the fact that he was talking about a 3G, not a 3GS

And boom goes the dynamite

Pretty much, I was never on 3.1.3 so I didn't down grade.

I did it again just to see what would happen and it worked a second time.
