I'll be letting the 14 day return period go by this evening and keeping the new computer. It's turned out to be perfect for my needs and I'm not having a single problem with it. It has even opened the door to something that I haven't tried before, a bit of computer gaming.
I wanted a computer that I can carry onto a plane, or stash in a car, without fuss, and without the limitations of a laptop. For that, it's perfect.
I'm running Final Cut, Motion, Compressor, Logic, iZotope RX and Ozone, lots of Native Instruments stuff, Photoshop and Lightroom, and it's handling them all with aplomb. And while I've purchased an external GPU, I'm also discovering that the internal GPU does just fine, thanks.
I'm having fun with the eGPU, learning a few things in the process, and giving computer games, pretty much a new thing for me, a chance. Two weeks ago, I thought that FPS was something that one only came across at the movies, and that steam was water vapour.
As much as I like my iMac's monitor, the new one has opened the door to HDR, includes colour spaces that the iMac doesn't and that I want, and works for me very nicely at its native resolution. This is a good thing, because I have zero patience for discussions that involve pixel counting. I kinda like a 32" display, too.
Finally, I love the ports. The ability to plug in a fast external drive without breaking the bank is one of this computer's great pleasures. So far I don't need a hub, and I'm planning to keep it that way.
This pint size computer is going to the North Atlantic come summer and to Sicily next fall, and I'm set.
