Hi there ...

Only one app can be shown on the desktop at any given time. If I click an app's icon it switches to that app but any other app on the desktop disappears!

Started 6 weeks ago and disappeared after update to 10.13.2

Now its back.

I hope that somebody can help.

You appear to be in single-app mode. It's actually a feature introduced in, if not the very first release of OS X, then the subsequent one. I don't know why it's activated on your system like that. There certainly are other ways of fixing your issue, but the first one I can think of is to download OnyX and use that to revert the behaviour. It's got a toggle for Single App mode

Can't find the option "single-app mode" in OnyX.

Found it ... a little app that I installed long time ago, never really used seemed to cause the problem.
Hides.app - was updated Dec. 30 - has a focus mode that was enabled.

Well there you go then. Guess it wasn't the OS feature anyway... Or who knows, maybe the app uses the OS feature. Regardless, glad you got it fixed
