It has taken a while, but today the $35 Chromecast dongle just became the best deal in town. You can now cast any screen onto your Chromecast. And yes, if you rotate to landscape, the entire tv screen is filled. Great for playing games like Dead Trigger and watching movies.

The “Cast Screen” option will now show up in the navigation drawer of the dedicated Chromecast app, which is available from the Google Play store. If you happen to own a Nexus device, you’ll also see the option right in the quick settings menu, so you don’t have to go to the Chromecast app itself.

Just tried it on my s4 works pretty well.

Was using the Brighthouse tv app, looks like every room really doesn't need a cable box :p

Audio works too, through the tv

Works damn good on my Nexus 7. I tried Dead Trigger 2 and Angry Birds GO. If there was any lag playing those games, I sure didn't notice. I guess that depends on how good your bandwidth is, but I also can't think of any other app or setup that can produce such minimal lag. It feels like it's hardwired to an HDMI cord.

No need to care how horrible casting the Chrome browser is anymore. Splashtop works very well with Chromecast mirroring to TV. And you get full function and sound.

I'm disappointed my Galaxy S3 is not supported. I guess its too old. :(

Did the S3 get updated to Kit Kat?

I still have my S4 on 4.2.2 and I don't see any option to cast. And the S4 is a supported phone. So I think Kit Kat is required.

The Galaxy line can mirror, you just have to be on KitKat 4.4.2 or higher.

Update to 4.4.2 and then you can mirror (assuming you have gotten the Chromecast app updated to version 1.7.4).

The Bell version (as well as most other versions for Canadian carriers) got the KK update about a month ago.

Thanks, for the tip. I'll check this out when I have a chance.

I dunno, somewhere in West Texas
Works pretty good on the Note 3. I'm surprised at the lack of lag. It's definitely not 1:1 but it's really smooth. Finally makes the Chromecast worthwhile, now I can ditch my MHL adapter.

Too bad it doesn't work on the iPhone.

Finally tried this with my Note 3, Nexus 7 2013, and my Note 10.1 2014 and it works well on all. When the nieces and nephews are over, Angry Birds in full screen is pretty fun.

Chromecast keeps improving. Pretty sweet for $35 :)
