glorious perfection!
Still setting mine up. I have an i7, 2tb with 16gb from RamJet. Ram took less than 5 mins to install, with no hitches. Was originally going to go with the 8 or 12gb, but the prices dipped a little. Machine is whisper quiet. I have a WD 4tb hanging off the firewire port, and a few older f400's daisy'd off the back. Going to buy another WD 4tb for Time Machine, which will be my third one. Price is right at around $380 from Amazon, and the drives are dead silent, unlike my Maxtors which always sounded like a drunk chipmunk trying to get on the hamster wheel to start the platters. Just ran the calibration on it with no hitches. Upgrading the Aperture library to v3 now, which looks like a day long affair at least.
Had one issue, 6 hours before the iMac arrived I had one of my external drives go down. The Maxtor was flashing blue lights and could not be accessed. I had purchased an Newer Tech USB Universal Drive adaptor from OWC for emergencies (like this one, lol). THE BEST $29 I have ever spent. period. I pulled the drive from the old enclosure and hooked it up to the adaptor kit, within seconds the drive was mounted, and I spent last night rescuing about 200gb of material. I have 2 other Maxtor drives of about the same age, so I am taking that as a sign to replace them as well. If you ever have a drive go down on you, this thing works great. It seems a lot of drives fail because of failures in the enclosure or the power supply. This is the second time it saved my butt...

Going to use the Migration assistant to transfer my old apps after Aperture is done upgrading the library. So far so good, biggest gripe is the time it is taking to copy & move files, but that is just because there are so many. The Aperture library is almost 400gb alone, and I think I am going to break it down into smaller libraries. The size makes me nervous. Hard to believe my first gen white 24" iMac could handle it as well as it did, but anxious to see how it flies on this thing...
I bought both the pad and the magic mouse, and so far am using them equally. The pad is a little easier for the huge screen than the mouse in some ways, but the mouse is easier in other situations. I bought the Apple batteries even though I have a bunch of Eneloops as well. For all the griping about cost, they are pretty much in line with the Eneloops (which I love).
The glossy screen is really not a bother either. Just like a glossy TV screen the glare/reflections disappear when the display is on. The screen is crisp and gorgeous. Will try to take a side-by side pic when I move it to it's permanent location.
cheers,
michael
