It's iPhone Time ... hmm

I scored an amazing deal for an iPhone 6+ at Verizon, so I figured it's time to set my beautiful, wonderful Note 3 down (for the time being) and use the iPhone. Of course, this will just be until the Note 5 comes out and I judge whether or not it's worth upgrading to the Note 5 (provided that Samsung keeps external storage and removable battery) or if I actually like the iPhone or if the Note 3 is who I am.

My background is completely Android. I swear by Android and I told friends and family members to choose Android over Apple, always.

I'm half excited and half scared of this new journey, but I look forward to it and the new technologies. Here's to a hopefully great experience with my very first Apple device. I'll miss you Android, ol' buddy ol' pal, and I'll miss you my fellow Android lovers. I'm going over to the dark side (well the light side on this forum) for the time being.

You can't go wrong with the 6+. It is a great phone!

It does look great design wise, but iOS has always been a PIA for me with it's boring homescreen. Hoping it comes with a JB-able OS.

BTW how is the Nexus 6. I was interested in that phone too (6" screen size = drool), but the iPhone deal came up.

I like the N6 for the screen and performance. Battery life is awesome. But the camera is disappointing compared to the iPhone. S6 or Note 4.

Best of luck. My advice, leave any OS prejudices at the door, approach your time with it with an open mind and spend every minute of time you have in your return window before passing judgment. This is my advice to anyone going in either direction. The most common complaints I see from users who have only been using one platform and try to switch is that they are frustrated because their new iPhone doesn't do something they same way their old Android phone did, and vice versa. Each platform has some similarities yet also do many things quite differently. Embrace these differences. If you have other Apple hardware, you'll be able to see and use much of the strength of the iPhone. Regardless, resist the urge to switch on your old phone when you have a rough day or two using her iPhone. So many times we see poster give up after just a day or two--you need to put in a good two weeks minimum, if possible, to get through the initial teeth cutting/growing pains you'll likely encounter.

I tend to agree with Maflynn, if you love the flexibility and customization that Android offers, I'm skeptical that you'll find much enjoyment with the iPhone.

And no need to leave fellow Android users behind. Most of us here in this subforum still continue to use both platforms or switch back and forth. You've actually come to what I consider to be the best spot for discussion, specifically because of the multiplatform familiarity of he users here.

I love LG form factors. Slim bezels are the way to go. I just bought an LG G2 for a relative and that phone has a crazy big screen in a small form. More so with the LG G3 and probably more so with the G4.

The iPhone 6 Plus is just way too big for the screen you're getting.

I am big fan of how LG phone form factor is. The top and bottom bezels are iPhone seems too big compared to the G4. The width of both the phones is similar, its the height that affects the pocket-ability. Holding by the width of the both the phones should feel the same.

Prepare yourself for the inability to download any type of file you want, or the lack of a file manager, or the minimialist approach to sharing data/grabbing data between apps, losing data when you delete an app, or being able to add any file type to an email... IF you can overlook the minor inconveniences that iOS has compared to what Android can do, you won't have any problems liking the iPhone 6.

Those can't really be compared. The fingerprint scanner on the iPhone isn't exactly a swipe version. It's a genuine 'place your finger here' sort of thing. I haven't seen the Mate 7, but the Note 4 has the swipe version.

Just got my iPhone and uhh ... I'm liking it so far. I got iOS 8.3 so not able to JB at the moment, but I do plan to in the future to rearrange my homescreen / change the theme up. But in the meantime, I'm going to play around with it and try to write a non-bias view about my switch.

Only con I see is the phone feels like it's going to drop, but I'm going to keep her naked.

It's iPhone Time ... hmm

After picking up a new iPhone 6 for cheap (couldn't resist) the biggest things I miss are homescreen widgets and freedom of file management.

The rigid icon layout also desperately needs an overhaul as phones are much bigger than the original iPhone with 3-4 rows I once had. Reachability adds an extra step; I much prefer icons on the bottom 50% these days for one-hand access. This ruled out the 6+ along with its physical size. I've tried phablets (OPO, Note 4, Xiaomi Note) but seem to get tired of the size after a few months.

Aside from that, iOS is smooth with only minor stutters here and there, similar to my S6 experience. Both phones have class-leading build quality and feel, fingerprint scanners work have the same level of success in my usage. The S6 wins on screen-to-body ratio as do many Android devices.

Having recently switched back to a rMBP for work, and already owning an Air 2, the integration with other Apple devices is obviously good and was a factor in my buy decision. This also resulted in me picking up the Watch out of curiosity and to compare against the S6/Urbane combination.

There's plenty to like about iOS and Android. Likewise with iPhone vs . You'll likely adjust to any differences and, as many in this forum do, either run both or switch in and out. I'd recommend giving it at least a few weeks to a month to get a real understanding.

Edit: forgot about fast charging... I do miss that.

When i got my 6 plus i went comando for a while, then i ordered a spigen case (can't remember why cause i don't really use cases) after that its imposible for me to use the phone without it feels really slippery and i always think im going to drop it.

I have both a Note 3 (20 months and going strong) and an iPhone 6 + (work phone).

My Note 3 is by far my main device. It has the lollipop update and works pretty well. However, the lollipop update does seem to cause a few hiccups like pauses which result in a restart. Luckily, it's very seldom. For me, the removable battery and microsd slot are used a lot. If the Note 5 doesn't have these, I will still upgrade, but will have to find a battery case and get a larger storage model.

My iPhone is a good phone. However, the safari refreshes can happen at the wrong time and mess up a work assignment. Fortunately, they are also not regular. However, (contrary to many beliefs) it does have lags and is not as fluid as my Note (to be fair, I'm still on 8.1.2. If I upgraded, it probaby would be smoother). That said, I use it a lot, and since I have a lot invested in the Apple ecosystem, it's nice to have access with my phone. Also, I have the 128 gb model and it's great to have so much on board storage. The iPhone's camera is faster and the pictures are better. It's build quality is superior to my Note.

If I had to choose only one, it would be the Note. Admittedly, I am an s pen fanboy. Still, the customization with android (s pen, multi-window, etc...) is just so useful and makes the phone superior, to me. Even though my iPhone 6 plus is jailbroken (iOS 8.1.2), the customizations are still very limited.

Apple's iOS 9 and later are supposed to less feature-laden and more stable. I think this is a good move. At present, their iOS and os x (I have a macbook air) software is glitchy. Focusing on it being more smooth would be welcome.

Since, at some point in time, I will drop my phones, a case is a must. There are cases that add very little bulk but would protect the phone somewhat from a drop; I would get at least a low profile tpu case.

The iOS v android debate emerges just about in any mobile phone forum so here's my two cents worth...

I've had iphones since the first one came out and regularly dabbled with android in htc desire, galaxy s2 and s4 but only managed to stick with them for 2 weeks Max before selling them on and going back to iPhone.

But about 8 months ago I got a galaxy s5. It was by far the smoothest of any Samsung's I'd had before. The camera was a step ahead of the iPhone 5s at the time. Default keyboard was much better than on previous devuxes. Screen much better too.

I then started experimenting with watching downloaded media files on SD card and view on the s5. Something that can't easily be done on the iPhone.

Then heres the big killer feature of android for me. The ability to share just about anything from any application directly to any other app.

For example share a web page directly to someone on WhatsApp or viber or Facebook or twitter. The same functionality on iOS requires the cumbersome method of copy the web page address then switch to the other app. Gets very tiring after a while.

Add to that the ability to download lots of unofficial apps outside the app store and android pretty much wins it for me hands down right now.

I've now got a Note 4 and I love it. I use it a lot and even use it in preference to my iPad Air which is a lot slower and crashes a lot.

Camera is on a par with the 6 plus. Screen scrolling is much much faster than the 6 plus and I've gotten used to the faster speed of the Note overall compared to iOS.

Having said all that, I like to dabble a lot with phones and will probably get the iPhone 6s - I hope they sort out app sharing as that's the big feature i miss the most on iOS at the moment.

Or maybe I'll get the One Plus Two if you can get hold of one easily lol.

Oh, and I notice in iOS android comparisons no one ever mentions how easy is to move the cursor and copy and paste in android and its unbelievably rubbish and badly done in iOS. Am I the only one who's noticed this?

I see the stutter that iPhone 6 Plus does from time to time esp if you switch from landscape to portrait or opening up a certain app and closing it. That and the 1 GB RAM for lack of any real multi-tasking is its main flaws. The iPhone 6 Plus might be the only 1080p Full HD smartphone trying to push 401 ppi on a "5.5 screen with only 1 GB of RAM. Almost all FHD Androids have a minimum 2 GB. Even budget Zenfone 5 with only 720p HD have 2 GB. And the one app that iOS lacks for me is TubeMate. I need that app. Yes, there is MXTube on Cydia. But TubeMate doesn't download from YouTube only.

Android is my FAVORITE mobile OS of all-time. I tried different ones starting with Symbian S60, BlackBerry OS5, Palm webOS, every iPhone OS sans iOS5, and Windows Phone 7.5 and 8.1. But Android getting up to the minimum of KitKat 4.4.2 is stable and close to perfect for me. I thought webOS and Windows Phone have more advanced UI's though. I like iOS more than WP for the apps. The MX Player app, Netflix, and Viber is just awful on WP8.1. But I can't see myself leaving Android anytime soon. It isn't perfect but it fits my personality of tinkering and remedying my quick boredom which stock iOS doesn't provide.

On my slim hard drive attached to my "16 HDTV, I have maybe 120 GB worth of entertainment. Everything from sports mixes and documentaries ranging from basketball, horse racing, boxing, NFL, MMA, Bob Ross, every I Love Lucy episode, Mr. Bean, The Three Stooges (my gf loves them), hundreds of music videos in either 360p or HD, 60+ movies and still growing, video games including G4 Icons episodes and graphics comparisons, The Travel Channel episodes from Anthony Bourdain, Andrew Zimmern, and Samantha Brown, SNL's Debbie Downer, Jimmy Kimmel's Celebrity Mean Tweets, retro TV intros, adult entertainment, funny commercials, and phone reviews. I probably will download a ton of stand-up comedy. The replay value of relaxing background scenery or comedic laughter is HIGH with me.

I don't really need Netflix or cable, and I really don't need to buy anymore DVD's or Blu-ray. I want all my media content in digital form. Less moving parts. Less mess especially if I was moving. That is why PS3 interests me more than PS4. A better media player and more games I want to play are available in download form. Cheaper too. That's why I can NEVER leave Android. TubeMate basically gave me a lifetime supply of TV entertainment and eliminates hard copies that would clutter up the place or get scratched up, won't play smoothly anymore, or would wear and tear the spinning drive. I also have several thumb drives and micro-sd cards as backups in case my storage does fail on me....

That's why the mantra of Apple being so SIMPLE to USE doesn't ring true to me anymore. If I wanted MXTube, I would have to jailbreak which is harder to do with 8.1.3 and above. You have to bend over backwards just to do simple things a normal PC and cheap Android phone can do. It isn't such a big deal and there is no real journey. It isn't like you are moving to a different house, city, or country with a new career. They are just phones. You can easily switch back or don't if you like a certain platform enough.
