It's New Monitor Time

well...my monitor is just about dead. Depending on the color of the screen (like a mostly white screen v a mostly black screen) the color temp of the screen changes and the "width" (for example this white box is a light pink on my monitor, and the left edge of the box is not visable.

So, I am looking for a new display. What I have now is a ViewSonic PF790 (18" viewable.) I would like to replace with an LCD. Any suggestions? I don't want to go smaller then 18, bigger is better .

Depends on how much you want to spend. Everyone around here says the Dells are good value, but if you're going on looks than an ACD is the way to go.

I like it, you go to the mac forum and they tell you to buy a Dell.

So, is this a good one: UltraSharp 2005FPW 20.1-inch Wide Aspect Flat Panel LCD Monitor with Height Adjustable Stand and 5-Year Warranty?

Dell makes this statement: "To optimize this monitor's performance, your system must be able to support WSXGA+ resolution (1680 x 1050)." I have a Power Mac G5 dual 1.8. Will that work? ( I gave up on the system spec stuff when I switched to Mac a few years ago. I don't know what WSXGA+ is, and as long as it looks great I don't care.)

The Apple displays are really nice, but I think I would like to stay in the $500 range. That puts the ACDs a little above my range. I would like the wider scrren though.

Agreed. For me personally, I love the looks of the Apple Cinema Display, and that alone is worth the price premium associated with it compared to the Dell. Logically the Dell is probably the monitor to go for in terms of price and features, but Black Plastic just doesn't look anywhere near as nice as Brushed Aluminium.

Is the 5 year warr. the way to go? I have had My ViewSonic just shy of 5 years and it is on its last leg.
