I'd initially not been too bothered by the power button being on the bottom, seeing it as no different to placing the power button on the back of the device in reality. Except rather than reaching to the back you'd reach to the bottom left of the device and press the inset button. The circular base would of course have enough height so you could place your finger under the corner. No problem.

That's now all changed as The Verge has just confirmed you have to actually lift up the device to press the button. Yes, lift up your desktop computer to turn it on. From the hands on article "He also says there’s no way to reach the power button, which is on the underside of the computer, without lifting it up."

This is a disaster.

Way back in the 90’s I used a Mackintosh that had its power button right next to the floppy drive, I lost count the number of times I powered the thing down when I wanted to eject the floppy disk ( there was no eject button, it was done via software ). Putting the power button on the bottom sounds fine to me.

I bought a M1 Mini for my sister. She kept complaining every time she pushed it under her monitor riser it would turn off the display.

It was the [redacted] cords bunching up and pressing the power button on the back.

I would have preferred the power button to be on the front like 90% of other computers.

It's just Apple's attempt towards a more healthful focus. Us geeks just sit at the table all day long tap tap tapping. The very least we could do is lift a little bit of weight, at least say once a day. Lifting that Mac Mini accomplishes that. Workout complete. Gym visited. Done.

LOL!!!!!

Which also worked perfectly fine for me. I still have my 2016 MBP and it still functions perfectly even at 8 years old.

This whole thing is much ado about nothing, but it's not like that's new in this world...
I disagree, there was a recall on it and a class action lawsuit. Thank god I returned my MacBook Pro with Touch Bar and I wasn’t stuck with a faulty keyboard. Just because you don’t have a problem doesn’t mean many didn’t. It was a widespread issue.
