No. Apple charges a $100 upgrade fee so it's definitely not worth it.

May I ask why people keep asking these stupid questions? A one year old smartphone can and should be upgraded to the latest OS. It's like asking if a $8000 Alienware should be upgraded from XP to Windows 7.

If I were to guess, reading too many of the (too many) forum threads lamenting how the latest iOS/OS X update made their month old piece of tech UNBEARBLY, PATHETICALLY, OUTRAGEOUSLY and ATROCIOUSLY slow ;)

I don't know why people ask if they should upgrade to the latest. You're getting bug fixes, security updates and likely new features. Why wouldnt you?

I swear the "my iphone runs slow on iOS x.x " threads here make people hesitate or second guess if they should upgrade or not. It's frustrating.

I also have an iphone 6 with iOS 8.4.1 and I'm afraid of updates because it only has 1GB of RAM.

EDIT: By the way, I also have an iPad Air runing 8.4.1 and the hardware is almost the same as my iPhone 6 but iOS9 runs poorly on it, so that's why people ask if they should update or not.

8.4.1 is the perfect OS for iPhone 6.There are annoying lags and stutters on iOS 9.2.1 so you may end up getting frustrated like me
I saw my buddy's iPhone 6 on 9.3 B3. It absolutely had no stutter in Control Center. But my 6S Plus does stutter on 9.3 B3 when it wants to. One instance it is butter smooth. But after few minutes the CC menu will stutter like iOS 9.0

But Apple is working to address these issues. Seems like our noise may have finally reached Apple Campus.
