I just did a fresh install of lion. And installed iTunes 10.5 beta. When i add m4v iTunes will not import them in. They work in QuickTime. And worked on lion/iTunes 10.5, When I did a upgrade from SL. But not since a clean install.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Are you specifically opening the M4V with iTunes? If not, maybe it's just defaulting to open M4Vs with Quick Time, thus iTunes won't get a chance to import them.

Try dragging and dropping the file into the iTunes library to see if that works...

Hi,

I'm actually importing them in via the menu bar and tried drag and dropping also trying to open them with iTunes via the file it self and right clicking.

Are these .m4v files ones with DRM? If so, have you authorized your iTunes for using them before importing them?

I'm not sure if importing would be prevented if the iTunes isn't authorized, but if it is and there's no message about it, it's a bug that it doesn't say anything.

Thanks for the reply, machine is authorised. No idea what the problem is. I will file a bug report.

Is in your *m4v a AC3 Audiofile? Try Subler

I think its not a bug, its a part of Apples new world order

They are indeed AC3 m4v files, i just checked. Thanks for the heads up.
And the files that are working/importing have apple audio codecs. Seems strange to remove this from iTunes. Maybe just cause of beta? i did get a error message saying something about quick time player not being right when i was trying to play the AC3 files within iTunes.

Ok before you import movies with AC3 to iTunes beta, you have to
deactivate the AC3 tracks. I use Subler. After the import you can activate the
AC3 tracks and watch or stream your stuff to the ATV

Perfect, that worked, thanks a lot for the tip! :D
