So, I was totally fine with the older version of iTunes, I didn't care about iOS5, because I'm not a big tech freak, but my brother kept nagging me to update so he could see it, and when, I did, crash! It says iTunes 10.5 isn't compatible with the CD/DVD my computer (Windows XP), and now it won't even recognize my iPhone, so, I can't charge it on the computer or get the pictures to it anymore. I tried uninstalling and installing again, I tried going back to the older version, but it won't accept it because now the iTunes library has been created by a newer version. I downloaded everything on my netbook (Windows 7), and it works fine, but I can't update it, because it's not the computer I usually update my things, and I'll lose all my songs and videos, which you CANNOT BACK UP because it's APPLE!!!!!! Since I hardly use the netbook, I've given up on the whole update thing. I just want a way to go back and charge my phone and get my pictures on my desktop again. Suggestions? Please? I'm just about begging.

ITunes 10.5 won't read CD/DVD and my computer won't recognize my iPhone anymore?

There are a few things to try here.
(Just a suggestion. Not a Windows user so your discretion is most important in the situation. Do your own research and do any of the above at your own risk.)
- With the computer off, plug in the iPod and turn the computer back on.
- Unplug other USB devices (even ones shared over WiFi) and plug just the iPod in.
- Back up your iTunes library and uninstall iTunes. Reinstall from Apple's website, and insert your iTunes library in the correct folders if does not remain through installing the new version. Also find any .ipsw files and iPod backups you may have and make a copy on removable media just in case.

What OS is the phone running? (Sorry, just remembered iTunes is the culprit, not the phone.)
Have you tried uninstalling your iPhone as a device directlt from the USB Devices Control Panel? (Again, I haven't used XP in years so no idea if that'll work)

It's the iOS before iOS5, I think, the lastest update before this last one. UGH! I'm so mad. I just want to charge my phone from the computer and get my pictures up, that's all. Stupid iTunes!

I'm a little confused but that's normal for me. It sounds like you have everything on your desktop working except now you need to sync your phone to the desktop? (iTunes says the phone has never synced before.)
It's not helpful now but you can backup everything on your phone and PC. Depending on how you have iTunes set, everything is in the iTunes folder except items that are not syncing without third party software (Outlook or something for contacts). iTunes shows what they are and allow you to choose the third party apps. If you go to a cloud backup you don't need that additional software. If you don't want to use the cloud, when you plug in your phone Windows will map it to a drive and you can use Windows Explorer to copy the pictures off the phone.

First, did you authorize your netbook? In itunes go to Store> Authorize this Computer. Do that and plug in your phone. If it sees your phone then you're ok. If you have everything on your phone then you just need to sync/backup
Hopefully that works. If not post back and I'll look into XP stuff further. It's been a few years since I worked with it but I have an old XP slate here so I can check some stuff out.
One more thing, be sure you netbook has all the most recent Windows updates installed. If you haven't used it in a while this may take some time but it is essential you do this first.

Yes, I authorized it, and yes, it has everything installed. I wish there was a way to get my songs and videos FROM the iPhone TO the computer I actually just want to fix it on my desktop, find a way to figure out why it just won't read the CD/DVD thingie.

After updating to iTunes 10.5, when I put a CD in my computer (Windows XP), iTunes does not recognize/locate it to allow me to import. If I close iTunes and restart, the CD is recognized. However, as soon as I eject and put a new CD (or the same one) in, the problem repeats.
I've tried the steps listed above with zero success.

Same issue with itunes 10.5
Itunes also no longer recognizes CDs for me. I have a PC, windows vista. Have tried different CDs and itunes does not respond in any way to acknowledge cd. Is there a way to revert to the previous version of itunes?
