Ok so I upgraded to the newest iTunes program and ticked the little box for prefer 1080p. How do I go about upgrading my tv shows that they now offer in 1080p? I understand not everything is 1080p, but on the stuff that they do offer in 1080p and I have already purchased how do I get it to download the file. I tried googling it, but couldn't find the answer or maybe was searching under the wrong key words. Thanks for any help.

First, check that you are able to re-download purchased TV shows from iTunes (I'm assuming you can, but some people have difficulty with this). The "Purchased" menu option on the iTunes Store main page should get you the list of TV shows available.

You say you have selected 1080p under "Store Preferences"? Then if the show is available in 1080p, you should be able to download it again direct from the "Purchased" page, as above. Click on the little cloud icon, and it should download in 1080p straightaway, even if you already have the 720p version.

As noted here, not all shows that appear as available to download will be 1080p - some haven't been upgraded yet.

I hate to be rude, but did you look in iTunes? It's pretty easy to see what content has 1080p files and it's pretty easy to redownload your files. There is no reason to google anything. Just go to the iTunes store and look around.

I hate to be rude, but can you comprehend what I typed?

Alright for anybody who cares. I finally resolved the issue.
Apparently when I bought my iPad 3 and downloaded the newest iTunes to load some things from a backup from my iPad 2 I hit a little snag.

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1347643/

I sent an email and then received a call back from apple. When the latest iTunes download came out a few people had a few unexpected surprises when they were the first to download it. For whatever reason iTunes messed up the audio kext files and changed some of the setting all together and corrupted my iTunes. When I was previously looking in my purchased section on the iTunes store it only showed the extras from the TV series that I had purchased and not the full seasons. I had two options that apple informed me would fix my situation. I could do a clean install and go update itunes after the install then go to my sound output settings in my system preferences and change from sound flower 16 to internal speakers because iTunes changed it for whatever reason and then I could redownload my purchases then from the iTunes store or my second option was to download all the 1080p shows on the iPad and transfer them over individually from my iPad. I went with the first route. So it wasn't me , but a corrupt iTunes download that they patched after i originally downloaded and upgraded.

Hope that makes sense. Thanks for the input.

iTunes Canada here

I was interested in renting Horrible Bosses. On the ATV they had HD version, but when I went to iTunes on my PC they only had SD version available to rent - for the cheaper price. I'm using the same account on both devices.

I have checked my HD setting under Preferences. Any reason why the HD version is not available. Other titles in iTunes are available in HD .......
