Does anyone else with the current iTunes 12.8.0.150 on an iMac find that iTunes no longer can see a connected iPad? The iPad is new, a MR7F2LL/A, running iOs 12.1.1. The iMac is a mid-2011, running El Capitan 10.11.6.
Oddly, the iMac itself can see the iPad - the iPad is visible in the iMac's Image Capture for example, and it is visible as a device connected via usb, and even the Remote app on the iPad can start and stop iTunes on the iMac same as always.
Remarkably, even iTunes itself must see the iPad to some extent, because iTunes will warn me that the iPad is locked if I plug it in when it is locked! It pops up a polite message to enter the passcode on the iPad before it can be used with iTunes. Which I do.
But even after entering the passcode, even when the iPad is unlocked, iTunes won't display the iPad icon and cannot sync with it or do anything with it that I need it to do, such as load it up with audiobooks.
Just for the sake of completeness, I checked other devices and found that iTunes can also see a very old iPod, and my iPhone (not a current model, oh the shame!). Those icons are displayed by iTunes just fine, and syncs with them just fine.
I see that an expensive App called WALTR will do what iTunes SHOULD be doing (transfer files to the iPad), but I don't want to buy an app to do what iTunes should be doing. Especially not a thirty-dollar app.
If this problem is not widespread, then I assume it is caused by my OS being El Capitan, and I know that Apple doesn't bother to test their applications with anything but the very latest OS. But if others report that their iTunes is not seeing their iPads also, then I'll know that this is something that Apple will likely fix sooner or later.
Thanks!
