Hello! Does anyone know how to make my iTunes visuals smoother? I have a 500mhz White iBook running 10.1. I tried to upgrade my RAM, which I did from 128 to 256, but that didn't seem to work. Any other suggestions? Is it because I only have a G3? Do I need a faster processor?

check the options

in the right hand correr there is a options button.. click it.. then bring the frame rate down... if its all ready capped at 30.. then there is not too much you can do. Video proformace has many factors... the major one is the video card. I dont know off hand what card is in your iBook but im sure it is not the best. RAM might help.. but probably not a big jump and the CPU too. Are you running it in OS 9 or X? If its in 9 you can try allocating more RAM for it. Do a get info on it then choose memory options from the drop down menue... then beef it up a little. that might help

thanks evildead. I'm actually running iTunes in OSX. Can you tell me the best video card to get? possibly a good url? I reallt appreciate your help. I guess there is no way I can allocate more ram to iTunes in OSX huh?
Maybe the (rumored) upgrade to 10.2 will take care of that? I've heard that the iTunes visuals run alot better on a G4? Is that true? If so then that means that part or all of my iTunes visuals issues could be put to rest by simply getting a new G4! (hah! I wish!)

hmm

I dont know any one that makes a vid card for the iBook that is better than the one it came with. They could exist, but I just dont know. I dont think they are swapable anyway. As for RAM allocation in OS X... its obsoleet. OS X does it dynamicaly on the fly so the OS gives the RAM to what process needs it. No more dumping a ton of RAM on photo shop only to find that when you open dreamwaver.. you run out. I know iTunes and runs great on my G4 :) I can get average 80 Frams per sec when palying games... even peek at 100! But the vid card that came with it is better. Your iBook is protable.... there are some things you have to sacrafice for a portable. They are really nice... I want one. :)

window size

i noticed the same thing on my Powerbook G4 500 mhz. i made my iTunes window smaller and more HDTV like. that made all the difference when running the visualizer not in full screen mode. if the window was larger, then the visualizer didn't look real smooth.

hope this helps!

I said 2 a month ago when iTunes 2 came out!

I said the same thing over and over togather with the EQ, I talked about 4 times about the visuals of the iTunes 2.

CharlesOwens6.. you are **** up. Apple did acelerate the speed of the visuals for you to buy a new computer.

Visuals in iTunes 2 takes too much video ram, they are faster and a bit brighter. I have 16MB of ram and iTunes consumes every single bit of that.

That was why I was so upset at Apple because of that. They want you to buy a new computer, they play tricks like that every time, they give you something new but they are gonna take some thing away, in this case, eficiency or compatibility.

Thanx to Apple your iBook is now too slow to play visuals.

You will have to re-instal iTunes 1, do no bother about the EQ because you will never are gonna use it any way.

you are **** up?

thanks... I think, for what ever that was. I don't know exactly what "you are **** up" means but you are **** up too. (and the horse you rode in on). I don't want to use iTunes1 for the simple reason that it is not compatible with my iPod. And as for you posting about this 2 months ago, I wasn't a member of macrumors two months ago. Excuse the hell out of me. So chill out and stop being so paranoid about Apple. Thanks to the rest of you for actually trying to help me.

Welcome, CharlesOwens6 to the forums. As for mymemory and his posts, he's from venezuela so his english isn't terribly good. And he is a very cynical person (or seems to be) that is always letting us know just what is wrong with apples products. ;)

re: english and grammar

and i never use caps because i am lazy and with four hundred posts, it's too much work

i also don't like proper grammar because i was born in the barn and egg hatched

mymemory, dont be an ass!

CharlesOwens6 was simply asking for some help and adivce about iTunes. they were legitmit questions. As for new faster visuals and may require faster computers... hell yeah. its called new technology. I'm not mad at Ford for making cars that require Gasoline insted of steam power. Does the new iTunes run a little slower on older systems? Probably. Well the next iTunes be evern bigger with more complex visuals? yes it will. Will my 867 Quicksilver become a paper weight someday when the G5 or 6 kicks its ass.?.. yes it well. CharlesOwens6 was just trying to find away to work with the system he has and the latest software.

dam... I need to read my posts over before I submit them. the only thing worse than my spelling it my typing. :)

Thank you for welcoming me. I am having a great time reading all of these posts. It makes me happy to know how many Mac lovers there are out there

You are **** up

Hey Charles, I loved your response; I was cracking up so hard my colleagues were wondering what the hell was going on. When I shared it with them, lost it too.

mymemory,
**** you. You biggoted *******. These forums are not supposed to be extreme, they are supposed to be informative. Also, is there something wrong with being gay?

What's up with the homophobia??? Is that what we need in this world, more fears, more ignorance, more hatred? (And yes, one can lead to the other quite easily). Has anyone learned anything since 9/11???

speed of Visuals..

Re: Ibook and iTunes2 visuals...

If you have at least 192 MB of RAM, more isn't going to necessarily help you. A faster processor can't be had without changing the entire computer to (no upgrades for iBook processors devised I'm aware of. I think it's surface mounted on the main board. As for changing the video card, it doesn't have one. Video is contained in one highly integrated chip also surface mounted on the motherboard. Same as the Power Book G4. Only towers have video cards in the Mac lineup.)

As for the anti-gay nonsense.. I resemble that remark.. That is, I'm a "fag" who would kick anyone's *ss who had the balls to say s@*!t like that to my face. D@mn, I guess every moron really does have Internet access nowadays.

dont be too offended

people tend to get brave about their weak minded attitudes and insecurties when they are on the internet. No one to answer to. If there is one thing that is good about this... there seems to be a good number of people at this site that dont put up with comments like that. its refreshing to see that there are good people out there.

some times people are just stupid. Ignorace is a sickness that pleges the world unfortunatly.

ive got to admit it. off hand comments like that, although usually not said in a very serious manner are totally scary. the fact that people still speak that way and use words like that is shocking. i dont get to see the ugly side of humanity very often, living in my ivory tower here in berkeley california, so whenever an ugly little comment like that pops up it makes my head spin.

but speaking of itunes visuals and macosx. i have a 333mhz g3 powerbook with 256mb ram and i find running just macosx eats up 80% of my ram. i open one or two applications and im into my virtual memory (and itunes is a hog!). i kinda doubt more ram would help much without a g4 speeding up the os, but lets face it the days of sub 1gig ram are over, osx just takes up too much ram.

It depends of the effects that are used in iTunes... Ram doesn't make any difference in iTunes but it is a shame that Apple didn't encorporate and hardware acceleration... I recommend running it full screen... That way the maximum pixels iTunes can run is 640x480, otherwise running them in a window can make them slower if your iTunes windows is bigger than 640x480. Also, in the Visualizations menu you can change it smaller.
