AFAIK the 8.6 mb is the whole application. it just downloads a whole new version of itunes and replaces the old one.

Hmmm, does anyone know why my iTunes (windows) doesn't ever find new updates on its own? It always tells me my current version is the newest, even when there ARE newer versions...
