As it says in the title I am unable to install iTunes 5 it says please quit itunes before updating athough it isnt open, any ideas ?

No luck

ive tried restarting, download manually , and using software update and it is still complaining that itunes is running when it isnt

I had the same problem and what fixed it for me is this....Do you have any secondary itunes progs running? like "sizzling keys" or something like that??? make sure its not running...cause that will give you that message...that will solve your problem...im 99% sure that is what is going on...

Tryed

I had you control itunes running stopped that same problem with installer being the only program running. is there neway tell if programs are running in the back ground (mac os 10.4.2)

Go into your "Activity Monitor" and see what other progs are running...(similar to hitting ctrl+alt+del on a PC) this will show you all the progs that are running

I'm still getting an error

I was able to install iTunes 5 without problems on my iBook, but it will not work on my PC. I keep getting an error message that reads "some of the downloaded files are corrupt, please download a fresh copy and try again." I've tried it 5 or 6 times now, same thing happens everytime. I tried deleting the the old installer files, plus all of the corrupt ones. Using firefox - don't know if that would make a difference. Also - had to download manually, as iTunes didn't find the update automatically (even though I have it set to check for updates automatically in preferences). Any thoughts?

Had the same problem couldn't install itunes5 because i needed to quit itunes. Managed to get it working in the end by quitting sizzling keys you need to stop it in your system preferances before attempting to install.
