I've noticed this evening that iTMS is charging US$1.99 per music video purchase.

Here in the UK, it's GBP £1.89, or US$3.31 (xe.com)

Now that's just not right. And considering the fact that iTMS users here get shafted through music already, (US$1.39 per track, as opposed to your 99 cents), I'm starting to think Apple are making more of a profit than some people think. OK, they might not make a huge profit on their 99 cent tracks, but you only have to look at the dollar and a half extra on the UK price of iTMS Videos, and you're going to notice something's up. I talked to my father earlier, who deals with record labels and licensing laws (he's a lawyer, in the good way though - they're not all ruthless profit hungry gits!), among other things, and can't see any reason why Apple are charging more here than across the pond, other than...... profit.

What are prices like in your locality? Do you agree at all with what I'm saying?

In canada its 99 cents canadian so its actually cheaper than in the us. Our movies though are 2.29 or something, so thats about the same. I hope they don't change the price of our music though. I have this thing where I will buy stuff under a dollar because it seems like pocket change. Once it goes over, I actually think about my purchases and whether I actually need them or not.

I think it may have something to do with a pyschological pricepoint as well, if you understand what I am trying to say.

If songs in the UK were priced at, say, 39p and videos at 89p, wouldn't that seem a bit cheap and people wouldn't actually buy them? Its like if songs were 50c and videos $1.25 in the US... it just seems too cheap. Maybe. (<--- Total BS line of reasoning, there.)

Now, did you ask your father how much record labels charge in the UK for songs from iTMS? Perhaps there is some profit involved since the US record labels charge a high price per song in royalties, so Apple needs to turn elsewhere to mark up the price a bit.

Speaking of being shafted, songs in Canada are only 99c as well, which is (rough guess) 86c US per song.

EDIT: killuminati, guess you posted while I was still rambling away

They won't change the music price since most other music stores sell songs for 99c in Canada.
