When they brought out the shuffle song preferences to allow you go make things less random in iTunes 5, it seemed to work pretty well.

I'm beginning to wonder though if the slider is the wrong way round in iTunes 6. I've listened to 50 songs today out of a playlist of 1500 with the slider set to 'Less Likely' and I've still heard 6 Elliott Smith, 5 Jack Johnson and 4 Sheryl Crow ones. There have also been two or three from two albums.

I do realise that the definition of random is that it could throw up the same song/artist/album but I'm curious if anyone else is finding the 'Shuffle' preference set on 'less likely' to make it more likely you hear the same things!

You know i have never been happy with shuffle on any of my Apple Products. Not on my shuffle, my old ipod(in sig), or on my computer. It always seems to favor certain artists. We use to have parties on every friday night at my old apartment and i would put a couple hundred songs on it and still here the same ones come on. It annoyed the hell out of me although i don't think the people at the party cared/noticed. I will have to try out this feature in iTunes 6.

I can see how comps get this random thing messed up since well it is technical and it has to rely on code to pick a random number, which thus isn't really random. It's not like rolling a die or pulling a number out of a hat with infinity of numbers, ya know?
