iTunes across my and my Fiance's iPhones

I have been a long time iTunes user, and have much purchased music as well as many matched songs. Recently my Fiance purchased an iPhone, and of course inquired about adding songs to it.

I would like to know the best way of getting the music "authorized" by me onto her iPhone. Is this accepted by Apple?

Note: We use different Apple accounts.

My wife and I share my iTunes account so all purchases can be shared, but we have seperate iCloud accounts.

I think there's a device count limit, but multiple people, at least within the same household, can definitely share an iTunes account. My family does.

I have my account on all my devices. My wife just uses a 4Th Gen iPod touch, while I use a 4th Gen Touch, iPad 1 and iPhone 4s.

I would think if Apple forbid it they would lower the number of devices.

Most of the stuff no longer has copy protection. She should be able to just set up her own account and use all of those files to sync to her phone. She will not be able to share a match account though, unless she uses your actual iTunes account.

It isn't a concern of copy protection, but rather that my name and iTunes ID is stored in each song. I wasn't sure how Apple handles MY ID showing up on other peoples' devices.

You have up to 5 devices to sync your media too. It's your decision on which devices not Apple's.

Home sharing wouldn't work in this situation. The OP and his fiance have separate Apple ID's. Home Sharing requires the same Apple ID to be used ... not to mention Home Sharing is for streaming over a wifi network.

The OP is talking about sharing media which may or may not have DRM. Obviously, the media that the OP has ripped himself (from CDs, DVDs, etc) could easily be copied to his fiance's iTunes (then sync'd to her iPhone). DRM'd iTunes media would be a no go without stripping the DRM. I'm not sure about iTunes Plus songs. I know the iTunes Plus files are tagged with the AppleID, but I'm not sure if any data gets sent back to Apple regarding "unauthorized" use. I'm guessing that iTunes Plus songs from one account will transfer over to another account without any problems ... but I'm not sure about the Terms and Conditions attached.

Home sharing most certainly does NOT require the same Apple ID. Before the cloud came along, my wife and I used home sharing all the time and we don't have the same Apple ID.

I believe you're referring to Shared Libraries, not Home Sharing. Shared Libraries will allow iTunes on multiple computers to stream media from other computers on the same network that have the Sharing turned on.

Home sharing is slightly different. Home sharing allows streaming of media on devices sharing the same AppleID. There are subtle differences, among them, I think Home Sharing will allow copying media from one computer to another over the network. I believe Shared Libraries didn't allow copying.

No it doesn't.

I've been using Home Sharing since it came out in a family with 5 different Apple IDs.

Perhaps you are confused by the fact that you use only one of these IDs as the 'master' ID?

Perhaps I don't fully utilize Home Sharing to understand this. Are you saying that you can use Home Sharing on a single device with multiple Apple IDs? Here are some examples, could you say whether or not it would work? Thanks.

She bought a movie on her iPhone/AppleID, but I'd like to watch it as well. Can I do this via Home Sharing? Would I be able to download the movie onto my iPhone, or do I have to stream it from her laptop?

2. We have one Apple TV in the house. It's connected to my iTunes Server (old Dell laptop), which is logged into my AppleID. Could I have the Apple TV connected to my wife's Mac, which has songs/movies/shows that are tagged with her AppleID?

Note - Both of these are hypotheticals, since my wife and I both share the same AppleID. I'm just looking for information.

Yep. Sign into her account on your iOS device and you can download the film. Or, sync her iPhone to her computer and make sure home sharing is on both computers (with one AppleID) and the movie will transfer across to your computer.
