MacOS Mojave on 13” MacBook Pro, everything updated and all system preferences set “ignore” inserted CDs, but iTunes always opens when an audio CD is inserted into my external CD drive.

I’m using XLD to extract to Apple Lossless, but my workflow is interrupted with every new CD. I saw that iTunes also has a preference box for new CDs, and that one doesn’t have an “ignore” option.

Am I missing something?

Thanks in advance!

Look in System Preferences under CDs and DVDs
There are options on what to do when different types of disks are inserted.

Thanks - that has worked for me in the past, but not now, not for me.

This is my current configuration.

Any reason you are using XLD rather than iTunes to extract lossless?

Don't forget to check iTunes import preferences:

Thanks!

iTunes import options don’t include “ignore’, all the options are for an action that launches iTunes. It appears there is no way to stop iTunes from launching short of uninstalling it.

Using XLD to create a separate lossless archive without my older lower quality files mixed in. Moving Nov 1 and was considering not shipping my CDs, and storing lossless rips on a NAS. Then streaming to my stereo with a Bluesound Node2i or Sonos Port.

I understand iTunes will be gone from the next MacOS release.

Disappointing behavior by Apple, planning to keep my CDs for now.

The same happens with my external CD drive – it seems that System Preferences relates to an internal CD drive only, in the same way that the Eject key on my keyboard doesn’t eject from my external drive. Wonder if there’s something that controls external devices?

Thanks!

That explains it, I did notice that DVD/CD preferences only appears when external drive is plugged in. Hope this gets fixed with Apple Music, but not to getting rid of my CDs just yet.
