Here's the problem:

2011 i7 Air, amazing Machine. I will never sell it.
Media keys stopped working with iTunes.

1) When the computer boots, I can control iTunes for few seconds using the media keys on the keyboard.
2) Shortly after, they stop working with iTunes.
3) I believe that the culprit is Spotify. When I open it (I have only iTunes Helper as a startup item), the media keys control Spotify instead, and I remember that that wasn't the case until few days ago.
4) The media keys stop working with iTunes even before I open Spotify. Maybe is there a preferences pane, somewhere, like Vox?

How to fix this?

Oh boy...

So I just deleted Spotify.

After a reboot, everything was ok, but now the keys stopped working again.
I really need some help, here.

----------

So, I just made an experiment.

Usually I have lots of apps open at the same time. I had iTunes playing on the background and closed all other apps.

I opened one and checked the media keys, then I closed it and opened another one.

The culprit?

IT'S ****ING GOOGLE CHROME! (I use it to sync with my Android phone). How in the world is this even possible? Is someone else with the same problem?:mad:

That is very weird, unfortunately I'm not on a Mac at the moment to verify, however surely this would be a bigger issue if it was just Chrome and iTunes open at the same time.

Do you have any loaded extensions in Chrome that may be controlling this?

I have:
-Google Play Music;
-Adblock;
-Chrome remote desktop;
-Flashcontrol;
-Google Keep;
- Another extension that isn't on the store but is related with one website alone.

Chrome has been reaching way out of its sandbox lately. I'm surprised they're getting away with it. I've been switching over to Firefox more and more lately.

I don't believe this crap. It really was Chrome.

Everything is working properly after following those fixes. I just have no words.
Chrome really is a trojan horse. It started with that stupid notification icon that does not follow OSX guidelines and notification center.

And now, this crap.

Hey, it won't take long for hangouts to control the camera.

I just have no words.

I agree one million percent. I was FLOORED by the notification icon and can't believe there wasn't more outcry. Or maybe there was and I just missed it. Like I said though, I'm getting away from Chrome and all Gioghlr products as fast as I can. Dumping Android for iPhone was part of the process. Gioghlr is creepy as hell and getting creepier every day.

Unfortunately I can't justify an iPhone, otherwise I would dump Google.

I got a perfect flawless, but used iPhone 5 64GB unlocked with new battery from Amazon for $400.

Almost a year later it's still flawless and I could sell it for the same price. I went through a ton of android phones and they're all essentially worthless now. I used to think android phones were cheaper, but for me, they turned out to be more expensive over time. YMMV.

I understand. I would really like to have an iPhone, but I just can't justify something above 200€ when for that price I can have a functional device (email, music, light games, etc.).

One day, when I start working.

Hopefully by then there will be something better than the current choices our masters permit us. Maybe Jolla or Mozilla phone.

I figured it out: it's the Google Music chrome extension. I had this exact same issue yesterday (spotify wouldn't work with media buttons on Mac), and I only installed the extension yesterday. I deleted the extension, and it instantly works now.
